Background Checks Delayed
In VA, the checks are taking longer. Officials say it’s because of increased demand and budget cuts.

Twenty some years ago I told the NRA that the prior restraint of background checks would become total restraint of a sales freeze as all the politicians have to do is de-fund the background check section of the police agency doing the checks.
Prior restraint is prohibited by the First Amendment, it is prohibited by the Second Amendment as well.

We were told by our NICS guy, after background checks were being delayed more (almost 3x more) than usual on Saturday, that the Criminal Database was down and they weren’t getting answers back from it for the checks. Wonder which one was playing a game of C.Y.A.

Sounds like everything is working like it is supposed too.

I got something last week and they told me it was taking up to 6 hours.
I waited in the area an hour or two and eventually had to go back the next day.
It’s annoying and costs me gas. My favorite gun store is near where I used to live, not where I now live.

The simple solution is just to get rid of the Virginia instant check system and use the free NICS system instead.
While I am not a supporter of NICS, it’s certainly better than a permanent 5, 7 or even 14 day wait, which is what they were proposing.
