The iPad is only “closed” if you want it to be. It’s called jailbreaking. Kind of like pretend gun-free zones are only gun-free if one wants them to be.

I’d say they sure aren’t secure when the OS gets cracked the same day an update is released (in MOST cases, sometimes it takes a bit longer for the jailbreaking teams to get to it)
