HDMI Cables
A rip off. I got two cables from Amazon for $0.25 each. Now, they’re up to $2.50. Don’t spend $50 on a cable.

Can’t remember where, but I saw something comparing these cheapo cables and the pricey Monster cables. No difference could be found. All adhered to the HDMI 1.3 specs, so all gave similar performance.

Bought a cheapie cable once and it wasn’t fast enough to run my PS3….games or Blu-ray DVD’s. Got sound but no picture. Neither were the cheapie cables they give you from the cable company when you switch over to HD Cable.
FWIW, i think it has to do a lot with the type of equipment you using. HD Cable box to TV, probably ok with a cheapie. Blu-ray DVD player to TV, you’re probably going to need something good.

I’ve been buying my HDMI cables from http://www.monoprice.com for a while.

HDMI is a digital technology. You either have it or you don’t. There is not an ability to lose signal strength or quality like old school analogue cable/antennas. A Gold plated Monster cable is the same as any other HDMI cable. I try to preach this to as many people as possible.
Hope your’s work out!

Same goes for wall mounts. Much cheaper via Amazon than from the brick and mortar.

Most of them are pretty much the same, but I have noticed that some of the cheaper ones tend to get loose connections over time that can affect the signal, probably due to the connection construction. That’s about the only difference, really.

HDMI is a specification. If the cable was sold as an HDMI-2 cable and it didn’t pass picture, it was defective.
If a cable meets the performance specification, it is sufficient, and you aren’t going to get better performance by spending more money.

+1 for monoprice

+1 for gold plating.
Contacts do corrode and will kill the stream of 0s and 1s. And it is a b****h to clean the socket from the crappy deposits. BobG alludes to something similar.
Other than that I agree with everything said here. The signal either is, or isn’t, unless you are trying to use really, really long cables. I forget my transmission theory…..

I always buy my cables from monoprice.com but you have uncovered the dirty little secret that Best Buy and others outlets don’t want out, their cables are way over priced.

Ooh I don’t want to say what I paid for an HDMI cable years ago, needless to say it was over $50…
