Not sure how NRA sold out the people of DC given they were and are continuing to work on DC gun ban repeal. Why shouldn’t NRA up the ante given how DC has done everything in its power to avoid complying with Heller. They should try to extract a better deal for gun owners. Funny how NRA is being criticized for “selling out the people of DC” for trying to get a better deal for them. This just goes to show you that NRA will get criticized no matter what they do.
As for Iowa, again, I’m not sure how NRA sold out anyone. The legislature passed a good Shall Issue concealed carry bill in a May Issue state. Virtually all the Sheriffs opposed the NRA bill. Anyone who really thinks the legislature was going to pass a VT/Constitutional carry bill there has no idea what they are talking about. The Shall Issue bill was dead for much of the session and was only revived in the last two or three days.
The NRA DID have something that could have won. An NRA backed amendment was attached to the DCVRA. The DC Rep. call the bluff and and said she would accept the amendment. After she did ANOTHER NRA backed amendment was added to the bill that would have brought Alaska-style carry to DC. That was enough to kill the whole thing.
The NRA had the chance to move forward on gun rights in DC. Instead they choose to support a position that clearly would result no advancement for firearm rights in DC.
I don’t know the reasons, but it is pretty clear that the NRA traded on the gun rights of DC citizens.
I just want to be clear. The NRA lobbyists are no dummies. They had a chance to end registration, semi-auto gun bans in DC–and the KNEW the latest proposal would kill the deal (it wouldn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that out).
Where did you get the idea that the NRA’s amdt would have brought Alaska style carry to DC? Have you seen the bill or are you just parroting Eleanor Homes Norton nonsense? I’d be willing to bet that is BS.
Funny how NRA is being criticized here for being to too quick to betray gun owners in Iowa by not pushing AK carry but being criticized for supposedly asking for the it in DC.

The NRA sold out the people of DC. Not much else to it.

Yes, because you know that for sure.

The NRA only fights the battles they win. Why would they care about this case?

Mike,

I doubt this is over.
