Night Sights

Looking at night sights for the Glock. Thinking about these Heinie Straight Eights for a few reasons. First, I don’t like three dots. Second, a few folks I’ve talked to say they don’t like the XS Sights because they give up a bit of accuracy. And three, Heinie is fun to say. What say you?

Palm Pistol Update

Coming in 38 special now, reports Steve. List of changes to include:

1. Chambering was modified from 9mm to .38 special in order to
provide a rimmed case for extraction.
2. Construction will be primarily 4140 steel.
3. Barrel wall thickness, barrel tab, barrel hinge pin, latch,
latch pin, receiver and frame were all increased in dimension and mass
to provide greater margins of safety.
4. Threaded muzzle was increased from ½ x 28 to 5/8 X 24 to
compensate for increased barrel OD.
5. Final incorporated safety features include two independently
operable grip safeties, two trigger covers, latch safety, striker
block, cocked striker indicator, loaded chamber indicator, disengaged
sear block and hand guard.
6. The three-digit combination lock was eliminated to reduce
production costs and time to market.

Website is here.

pre crime

In Colorado:

Colorado uses InstaCheck, which catches people between their arrest and conviction. The program can also prevent people with restraining orders against them from purchasing firearms.

“Without InstaCheck, a wife beater, a stalker or someone who’s about to go to court or who wants to stop a witness against him, these, I’ll call them thugs, could buy a gun anywhere, anytime,” Boyd, a Lakewood Democrat, said.

Boyd says the InstaCheck system can protect victims of domestic violence and witnesses in crimes.

How does the system know they will be convicted?

Speaking of firearms freedom acts

The NRA is sitting it out:

The nation’s most influential gun-rights group is conspicuously absent — and nearly silent — in a growing battle between states and the federal government over gun control.

The National Rifle Association has been taking a low profile when it comes to the firearms freedom acts that have been passed by seven state legislatures and spawned a growing legal fight between those states, some gun advocates and the U.S. Justice Department.

Probably because it’s just not a winner. I don’t know of any prominent legal types in the gun rights world who really think this thing has a shot at anything. I hope they’re wrong but I tend to doubt it.

Another

Firearms Freedom Act passes in Alaska.

In DC

Gun rights and representation seems to be the flavor. The WaPo says that getting representation isn’t worth it since it comes with a bill to prohibit the district from regulating guns.

DC’s symbolic rep seems to be on board though.

Free Agent

USPSA’s top woman shooter Jessie Abbate no longer sponsored by Glock.

In Chicago

A bloody 12 hours in Chicago; 7 dead, 18 wounded. But guns are banned there.

You can do that?

Former Blackwater president charged with, according to the press, using straw purchases to stockpile automatic weapons.

The Narrative

Tam thinks the targets of opportunity are questionable. Meanwhile, a plot to kill police officers (and someone Raymond Kelly to get his booger-hook off the bang-switch) doesn’t fit the narrative.

Of course, it’s gun rights activists who are terrorists! And, obviously, we must invoke Columbine.

ETA: In light of the daily show clip, this is funny. Or sad.

That does help

Afghani volunteers have poor marksmanship. Turns out, no one ever showed them how to adjust the sights on their AK.

The press dredging it up again.

Rally ’round the family

Wait, what:

An armed “Restore the Constitution” rally gathers today in Fort Hunt National Park; an unarmed “Second Amendment March” will take place at the same time on the National Mall.

Two big steaming piles

Good news: I bested the five scoops. Bad news: Not enough and have four more on the way.

A big ol’ steaming pile

No, not the latest dehumanizing rhetoric from Paul Helmke. Had five big scoops of mulch delivered. Me vs. the mulch. The mulch is winning. Light blogging.

Amazing story

I teared up a little.

Seen on facebook

A friend: Natalie merchant’s new cd. A departure from my normal gangsta rap but very subversive childrens songs that are quite good.

Friend’s friend: Did it come with a vagina?

Obviously, a racist

These are my people. Americans.

Seen in the press. Layers of editorial oversight, and all.

The Narrative

Gone from reactionary and hateful to outright sad.

See, tea party = NRA = terrorist. I think.

Meanwhile, if you want to be critical of Tea Partiers, you could point out some issues instead of equating them with Timothy McVeigh.

And the lefties shed a tear

Charles Dyer has been found Not Guilty of federal weapons charges. You may remember the lefties cheering and trying to associate the guy with tea parties and such.

Tax increase

Lame duck governor wants sales tax increase. Or we’ll have to cut spending. A couple things: probably not a good idea to push since income tax is fresh on peoples’ minds. And any ZOMG! WE NEED MONEY OR WE’LL HAVE TO CUT SERVICES push, they always trot out state employees or police and fire departments as who to cut. But the money rarely goes there.

Grassroots
