Quote of the day
My 9 year old nephew:
The police department came by our school to teach us about gun safety. And they sucked at it.
Followed by my other nephew, who looks at his mom and says:
Are we allowed to say sucked?

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.

Given the low level of interest demonstrated by most cops I know in their actual craft, I am always amazed that people invite the police to come talk about gun safety. Most cops I know care very little for learning any more about guns than they are required to know to pass their qualification tests.
I would be more inclined to invite someone from the local commercial gun range. They are very interested in their craft. And they are usually nuts about safety due to financial liability concerns.

To be fair, I don’t know that gun handling is really the cop’s “craft.” Ideally, it will never have to be used. In the real world it sometimes does, but I’d rather have a street-smart cop who’s a poor shot than a clueless sharpshooter.

As a Fireman I rolled on many accidents where LEOs had wasted their vehicle because of reckless driving. Add to that the numerous accounts I’ve heard/read of negligent discharges by LEOs, ofton done while demonsrating “firearm safety”. All told, the average LEO would be the LAST person I’d ask for safety advice on ANY subject.

think he was more upset there wasn’t a live fire demonstration than anything else.

I hear the DEA gives live fire demonstrations.
In classrooms.

I’ve known a bunch of cops over the years and most of them don’t know the first thing about firearms beyond familiarity with the one they carried.

Got a belly laugh out of me on that one.
That made my day, thanks for sharing.

The kid’s right. If you remember Lee Paige, raise your hand. I believe Mariner does.

Not to worry you never find clueless sharpshooters on the police force. The FBI gets all of them….

Jim W has it right. Reminds me of the time a deputy (packing a Beretta 92) complained that the hammer drop lever wouldn’t drop the hammer of my loaded 1911. My response that it was a single action, and the hammer was supposed to be cocked, drew a puzzled look from him. I was thankful he hadn’t caused any loud noises that evening!
