Felons and guns
In Tennessee, a nurse is suing to have their rights restored:
A registered nurse, who was pardoned of a felony drug conviction, has filed a lawsuit against Tennessee’s governor and attorney general in an effort to win back his gun rights.
The suit filed Thursday against Gov. Phil Bredesen and Attorney General Bob Cooper says the state of Tennessee is ignoring the Second Amendment rights of anyone who’s given a pardon that also restores gun rights. It is asking a judge to stop the state from denying the gun rights of people given these special types of pardons.
David Scott Blackwell was sentenced to five years in prison in 1989 after being convicted of selling cocaine in Gwinnett County, Ga.
He was pardoned by the state of Georgia after turning his life around and going to nursing school, Blackwell’s attorney said.

About time such a case arises.

Besides, felons desiring firearms don’t have any problem getting them.

Vice laws and gun laws. We can do well without them.

Wait, what? He got a pardon for turning his life around? I thought pardons were for those discovered to have been wrongly convicted, not for good behavior. This sounds like he did the crime, and was doing the time when he got pardoned. Or am I missing something here?

He did the crime. However, short of kidnap, rape, murder no crime should carry a life sentence. I am in favor or restoring all his rights pardon or no.

and if they are life sentences, then we should be on the hook for their room and board for that term.

straightarrow,
Agreed on both counts.
A felon who pays his debt to society should have alll rights restored.
A felon who shouldn’t own a firearm shouldn’t be alive and out of prison.
