Controlling the switch

LA says they’ll boycott Arizona. Arizona says you know we provide you with electricity, right? Heh.

A funny but idle threat. Electric transmission is federally controlled – and much of the generation is probably already under contract to California utilities.

  2. Will Says:

I really hope they do it. Show those damn commies whats what. All those tree hugging hippies should be ok without the power from Arizona right?
I’d seriously considering moving to this state if the wife would let me.

  3. Nate Says:

Arizona to California “I see your pair of 2’s with a full house….now get me a beer, bitch.”

  4. JD Says:

I’d love it North Dakota would say that to Minnesota when the idiot liberals who run that broke ass state start bitching about our coal mining and oil drilling.

  5. John Smith Says:

    Turnabout is fair play.

  6. J Richardson Says:

More than electricity, I think Arizona should say “no water for you!” to California.

  7. Sigivald Says:

To be fair, as well, “California” didn’t say that. The LA City Council did.

The City Council doesn’t even speak for the population of LA, let alone California.

  8. Paul Says:

Looks like some wheels are starting to come off. On the one hand if AZ is contracted to supply x number of kilowatts to CA they should provide it, for the sake of rule of law. But a contract is just paper. Kind of like a restraining order.

  9. wizardpc Says:

Well, if LA is cancelling contracts with AZ businesses, then AZ should be able to cancel contracts with LA.

That being said, this guy is just a comissioner. He can only encourage electric companies to boycott LA. He can’t actually order them to do so (I think).

And I seriously doubt any electric company doing business with LA is going to forsake that profit.

  10. Mike Says:

I gotta say…..I read this and started laughing uncontrollably. Good for Arizona!

  11. DAve Says:

    Haha
    yes, electricity AND water too…
AZ should just toggle the switch off for 15 seconds and yell:
    “WHO RUNS BARTERTOWN?????”

  12. SPQR Says:

The electric utility in Los Angeles city limits is a city department.

  13. Ron W Says:

So is Calfornia actually FOR illegal immigration??!! It’s really workin’ for them isn’t it??

Does California forbid their law enforcement to apprehend bank robbers? That’s a fed crime you know. Do they just ignore it and let the feds catch the robbers??

All of this allowance, appeasement and accommodation of illegal immigration is utter criminality among officialdom; the elite ruling class. Those who aid and abet criminals are—criminals.

  14. SPQR Says:

In reality, California has a statutory provision little different from Arizona’s. I think it is Penal Code section 834b. But then facts have little to do with anything that California’s completely dysfunctional political class do.

  15. Xrlq Says:

SPQR (no relation) is right. LA itself is already boycotting Arizona’s power. The real solution, I think is for the rest of us to boycott travel to all cities that boycott Arizona. No need to cancel that trip to L.A.; just stay in any suburb that hasn’t engaged in this nonsense, and send the major L.A. hotels a letter explaining why you did.

  16. Jerry Says:

Has anyone thought about the fact that Kaliforncatia, ‘mebbe, can’t afford the juice there getting? Might be a good reason for telling them to piss off. Just a thought. There credit score might have something to do with the story.

  17. Myles Says:

Ok, here is the deal. A couple of the local talk radio guys had the comissioner on their show this afternoon to explain just exactly what he could, and could not do in regards to us pumping power to L.A.
Pierce basically said this: He doesn’t have the power to end electric flow to L.A., and it is true that California Edison and some other power company for Los Angeles own about 13% of the Palo Verde nuke plant just outside of Phoenix. So, no, as much as I would love to do it, no one is going to flip the switch and leave 25% of L.A. in the dark.
What he DID stress was that if the L.A. City Council had any balls (which they don’t) they would stand by their boycott and stop ALL business with Arizona, meaning they would sell off their share of Palo Verde and the other, smaller, power generation stations they get electricity from that are located in AZ. Then they could go to the open market and buy their power from someone else and feel good about themselves because they were REALLY boycotting AZ, not just strutting around trying to score political points. He also made it a point to stress that it would NOT hurt AZ’s economy or the power authority’s pocket book to do this, since there is no money being exchanged between the two entities (L.A. and AZ). California power companies get a percentage of the power generated because they helped pay for the station(s).

  18. Matt Groom Says:

I think the point here is that nothing unites us as a country any more other than currency. Not culture, not law, not religion, not anything. Political power struggles (pardon the pun) like this usually lead to violence, and when two sovereign states of opposing cultures are engaged in violent conflict, that’s called a “War”. As soon as someone dies over this argument about the validity of federal laws, it will change the United States in dramatic ways.

  19. JKB Says:

Again people misinterpret Arizona. Is it their accent? I don’t see it as I understand them perfectly. There was no threat to cut off electricity. Only encouragement for LA to show commitment to the boycott or shut the hell up. The commissioner did offer to help LA by being willing to encourage the power plants to re-negotiate their contracts with LA. Best part is San Diego is already reporting that Arizonians are cooperating with their boycott by keeping their filthy money at home.

Now we have a 2nd rate president of a 3rd rate country lecturing us about our immigration in front of our White House. An immigration problem caused by his country being so bad millions of his citizens are willing to risk life and limb to get out.

And the first anti-American US president just stands there nodding rather then defending the United States.

Note to Obama: The Israeli and British Prime Ministers didn’t deserve to be treated shabbily as you did but the Mexican president, he deserves the bum’s rush.

  20. Scott B Says:

Political posturing on both sides, nothing more.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
