The City of Austin Tuesday released photos of the web of tunnels a man dug underneath his East Austin home.
Under the yellow home are three stories of tunnels. For at least two years, neighbors suspected owner Jose Del Rio was up to something strange, but had no idea just how busy he’d been.
And, apparently, if your neighbors see you hauling dirt out of your house, the authorities will go get a warrant.

They didn’t get a warrant because he was hauling dirt out of his house. They got a warrant after the tunnel system partially collapsed and his neighbors could see down into it.

Well that just sounds like bad engineering. If I owned a house though, I’d probably have a tunnel network too. I don’t consider myself to be a hardcore prepper, but can’t hurt. I think I’d use a little more structural reinforcing though.

I’ve been in East Austin. I’d want a tunnel too.

Hope they don’t find mine!!! Shouldn’t be a problem.
Dumped the dirt in my neighbors’ garden @ night. He couldn’t figure out why his garden kept getting bigger.

So, um, I have the same “Dangerous” chemicals in my garage. I own guns too. What did this guy do to have his guns taken? And whats so hard about bringing oxy-acetylene and batteries up a ladder? Man, I would be WAY pissed if someone said “We’re taking your guns, batts, and welding equipment because you’re not allowed to did like that in city limits. Oh, and we’re filling it in too”.
