I will presume those busting into my house mean me and my family harm and act accordingly

Summing it up:

Do we really want to live in a country where when someone busts into your house at night you’re supposed to assume they might be cops?

Standards

For judging police actions.

Why we’re winning

A lot of that is because they’re just losing.

Where Great Britain used to be

Man charged with murder for killing the guy killing his mother.

Funny target. Scroll down a bit.

Hammer head pistol grip

Or is it? I dunno what it’s for but it looks interesting.

Update: In comments, Mark says:

There are restrictions on pistol grips in CA, CT, MA, NJ, and NY. We also sell these into the free states for shooters who like to hold their AR-15 like a wooden rifle. Believe it or not there are those who prefer it even though they could legally use a pistol grip.

Good for NRA

The Comical Squeal notes NRA got their lobby on:

Her message was clear: The gun lobby opposed an amendment to the bill that would have banned guns in businesses serving alcohol that derived less than half of its income from food sales. And the NRA considered lawmakers’ upcoming vote on the amendment “a weighted vote” – one that would help decide whether a member wins the group’s coveted endorsements or its feared opposition in this year’s elections.

And if you’re on a government list, you shouldn’t be allowed to write stupid editorials

The paper of making up the record bleats that folks should be denied their civil rights because their name appears on a list that cannot be reviewed and that is kept secret and that has been proven to be error-ridden. It is, you see, the evil gun lobby who, by virtue of looking out for civil rights, that isn’t sane.

Heaven forbid that it require due process to restrict rights. And we should simply take some bureaucrats word that so-and-so is a terrorist.

Additionally, they screech that the evil NRA is gearing up to use its first amendment rights to let other people know their position. You can’t have large civil rights organizations hitting the airwaves and telling people why they oppose such restrictions. And they shouldn’t get their political message out. That’s the media’s job, dammit!

ETA: Meanwhile, Times Square bomber was on the list. But was taken off.

About that registry we don’t have

Curiouser and curiouser:

For the arresting officers, there was another wrinkle. They knew from running Shahzad’s name through databases that he had purchased a gun in March. If the suspect was following the media reports, he knew the noose was tightening and might try to shoot his way out.

Could be a CT thing, though.

Journalists Guide to Firearms Parts

Heh: Clips and magazines.

Maff

Joe crunches the numbers once again on the record sniper shot. I think he had to translate French into English.

There’s an app for that

NRA has an iPhone app for the Annual Meeting.

People with real phones can get it here.

I don’t want to live under a government that can keep me completely safe

Freedom has consequences:

There are many aspects of our free and open society that make life easier for terrorists.

And the geek:

And one of the consequences is that you don’t get to go around giving an individual the unreviewable power to capriciously make up secret lists of people whose freedom has been canceled.

So long

I’d like to bid farewell to a worthy opponent. But they weren’t. Anti-gun astroturf false flag operation The American Hunters and Shooters Association goes poof.

More metrogun

Les Jones:

Anyone Know How the Metro Gun Works?

Pretty much, it works for the same reason your 22 rifle is quieter than your 22 pistol. More metal allows less sound and gas to escape. But regarding the reported level of decibel reduction, folks at subguns note it’s a bit overstated:

The website claims 72 decibels which I thought was BS, so I wrote to them asking about their testing methods. They claimed the microphones were 100 feet away from the gun, meaning that the noise level recorded was less than 1/1000th of what it would be if recorded near the gun as required by the usual standards.

I’ve not actually heard one fired.

On video. Ninja gear, shoot the dogs, busted door. For a little bit of weed and to charge the occupants with child endangerment for having drugs near kids.

The people that keep you safe

Security Theater Agent goes through one of those body scanners. His coworker decides to make fun of him and tell him that it is in fact the size of the boat that matters and not the motion of the ocean. So, he takes a police baton to his coworker.

And this is why we use a rifle case

Man with a rifle seen at Park West, which just had a mass shooting. Naturally, peopled freaked out. He was just there showing his doctor his vintage rifle.
