Daley on McDonald: Probably gonna lose

Brings a smile to my face. If you’re thinking he’s gonna get all Bloomberg and loosen the gun laws in anticipation, not likely:

We’ll be looking at local ordinances. We’ll have to wait for the decision to come down and what they will say in the decision

And, next, they will check your rights at the door over insurance:

On that score, the city is considering requiring gun owners to carry a level of liability insurance.

“You’ll have to show that you have insurance before you can purchase and register a gun, somewhat similar to what you do before you buy a car,” said Prof. Harold Krent, Kent College of Law dean.

A question I asked numerous times was Why should I care about the Ruger LCR? I never got an answer. But I did get this pic:

Breda and an AR

Right before this pic, I said to Breda: ‘Let me get a pic of you and that AR.’ She said she hated ARs. But she posed with it any way. You can see the look on her face that says ‘I’ll humor him’:

My pockets have pockets. And in those pockets, are more pockets

I received my order for four pairs of 5.11 Covert Tactical Pants. You can get them at that link cheap but sizes and colors are limited. A brief review:

100% cotton and thick. One of the issues I have generally with khaki style pants is that they’re too thin, which, for me, makes them uncomfortable. These pants wear almost like a pair of work jeans but they’re appropriate for a business casual setting.

Supposedly wrinkle resistant, and we shall see how that holds up.

There are discrete zipper pockets below the regular front pockets. They are sized for fitting something like a cell phone. Pretty handy to have. The new version has a larger side pocket but look less, err, covert.

In the front pockets are another set of zippered pockets. I find this handy and keep my keys in one and my Droid in the other to prevent my keys from scratching the Droid’s screen. They have a total of 12 10 pockets.

The pants have a tunnel waistband which, basically, makes them adjustable. I don’t usually like this in pants but it does make them fit better when you have a holstered firearm.

They’re treated with Teflon to repel stains.

So far, I am a fan.

Update: try as i might, i only find 10 pockets.

NRA Annual Meeting Round Up

More pics from our Saturday night get together, including me having a lightsaber fight with Alan Gura. This get together was a good time. Casual, good food, and a lot of laughs. I got to try black pudding, which is neither black nor pudding.

Charlotte: The Good and the Bad. I have to admit, Charlotte was an odd little place. It was nice, clean and the food was good every where. The downtown was a bit hard to navigate if you were driving. And NC carry laws are awful. I’m certain I broke the law there a few times.

Should you put guns in it or move in?

Downrange Radio has some stuff.

NRA Bill for once fired brass

From ILA:

Today, by a unanimous voice vote, an NRA-backed amendment was added to the House Armed Services Committee’s National Defense Authorization Act (H.R. 5136) that will ensure serviceable and once-fired small arms cartridge cases are available for commercial sale.

Firearms Freedom Act Suits

The DOJ and the Brady Campaign have filed briefs regarding the Firearms Freedom Acts. These cases aren’t great and the Brady bunch is likely tagging along because they know they can score a cheap win. These suits are losers and the Brady campaign knows that.

Speaking of, OK Governor vetoes a FFA bill.

Bunker

Odd story:

The City of Austin Tuesday released photos of the web of tunnels a man dug underneath his East Austin home.

Under the yellow home are three stories of tunnels. For at least two years, neighbors suspected owner Jose Del Rio was up to something strange, but had no idea just how busy he’d been.

And, apparently, if your neighbors see you hauling dirt out of your house, the authorities will go get a warrant.

Priorities

I think you have the whole border control thing done backwards. Outgoing traffic isn’t what most Americans are concerned about.

The universe is made of stuff we can barely begin to imagine.

Everything you probably think of when you think of the universe—planets, stars, galaxies, black holes, dust—makes up just 4 percent of whatever is out there.

Quote of the Day

At the NRA convention, Breda to me (paraphrased):

I like you better in person than I do on the internet.

I wasn’t sure how to respond to that.

Your media is old

One of the more interesting conversations I had at the NRA convention was with NRA’s Danielle Sturgis, who blogs at NRA Blog. She told me that she refused to call blogs and such new media because, well, they’re not new anymore. Blogs are a decade old, at this point. She refers to blogs and other new media as direct media. Definitely a more apt description, I think.

Bushmaster ACR: My Thoughts

In my video with Bushmaster, they told us all about it. Now, my thoughts. First, it is ergonomically pleasing. I like it’s set up. Also lie the fact that it’s bolt release can be activated with your trigger finger and that the charging handle is toward the front. Both of these features are simply superior to the design of the AR-15 in terms of ergonomics.

Also, the ACR had an amazing out of the box trigger. I even asked if it was a special trigger and was told that was standard. Little creep and a nice clean break.

The only con for the rifle is the price point. Saw one at Coal Creek Armory yesterday for about $2,400. For that price, you can get three AR-15s.

SAF on NYC’s new gun laws

From a presser:

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s “relaxation” of gun regulations to make them more streamlined in the city is “a lot of flash and very little substance,” the Second Amendment Foundation said today, after carefully studying the new guidelines.

“It is clear to us,” said SAF Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb, “that Mayor Bloomberg is trying to make it appear that his gun regulations are more user-friendly to deflect a potential lawsuit once the Supreme Court rules on our legal action to overturn the handgun ban in Chicago. This tells us that Bloomberg and his legal advisors are convinced the high court will hand down a favorable ruling in the McDonald case, striking down Chicago’s ban and incorporating the Second Amendment to the states via the 14th Amendment.’

Under Bloomberg’s program, licensing requirements will be allegedly streamlined, renewal fees will go down and the application process will be speedier.

Hillsdale College Shooting

From an email:

The Hillsdale College Shooting Sports Center has received a $7,500 grant from the Hal & Jean Glassen Memorial Foundation, based in Okemos, Michigan. A former NRA president, Hal Glassen was a skilled shooter who competed at the Olympic level. The Glassen grant, matching one from the National Shooting Sports Foundation goes toward the establishment of a shooting club and team. The Hillsdale College Shooting Sports Club presently has 26 members.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
