Getting fitted for my wookie-suit
I apparently score 80% on the libertarian purity test.
I said before most NRA hate is unfounded. But one thing they do that annoys me is not giving credit when it is due. None of their releases regarding McDonald mention either Alan Gura or the Second Amendment Foundation. Those two were, you know, sort of the big players in the landmark case. NRA did it’s part but credit is due, folks.
Giving proper credit is a recurring problem. And not all of that comes from NRA.
Now, I despise Al Gore as much as the next free thinker. He’s an awful man who makes a lot of money scamming true believers into buying useless financial instruments from a company he has a financial interest in. And it’s easy to take a shot at this guy because he’s socially awkward.
In case you haven’t heard, there are allegations he sexually assaulted a masseuse in Oregon. The source was the National Enquirer so, obviously, such allegations should be taken with a huge grain of salt. But the Oregon press is picking it up and I’ve read the victim’s statement to police and note that the investigation is ongoing.
I realize it’s easy to make fun and make light of Al Gore in this case but, if her report is true, Al Gore sexually assaulted her. And that’s not funny. And the jokes are in poor taste. Sexual assault is never funny.
Looks like their first (and it will be their first) attempt at gun control revisions:
Chicago’s Proposed New Gun Ordinance: Only 1 handgun allowed , Gun Registry, Ban on Gun Stores
Keep tilting at windmills. And:
She said that limiting Chicago residents to one handgun would pass constitutional muster. Nowhere has the court determined that “a person is entitled to more than one handgun,” she said. “And one handgun is sufficient for self defense.”
Grasping at the straws. And this pretty much guarantees McDonald part 2.
Some bits on McDonald:
Robert Cottrol, who was cited, has a piece at SCOTUS Blog.
Bloomberg declares victory. Seems to be a trend among the losers.
I would say 90% of the calls I received yesterday were in support of the Supreme Court and people say they want to bear guns. They’re tired of the violence and it’s very very interesting. I have had a few on both sides today, but yesterday was overwhelming, it was stunning to me.
I haven’t kept up with it because, like most NRA hate, it’s usually short on facts and long on speculation. But Red State says that NRA issued a gag order to the board to shut up about Kagan. Except it is the board decides what NRA does and not the NRA that decides what the board does. Anyway, Chris Cox calls RedState’s accusations unequivocally false.
I linked earlier to a bit about how TSA treats amputees like criminals. The woman who was making the complaints is receiving hate mail.
Why does neither the U.S. government nor U.S. energy companies have on hand the cleanup technology available in Europe? Ironically, the superior European technology runs afoul of U.S. environmental rules. The voracious Dutch vessels, for example, continuously suck up vast quantities of oily water, extract most of the oil and then spit overboard vast quantities of nearly oil-free water. Nearly oil-free isn’t good enough for the U.S. regulators, who have a standard of 15 parts per million — if water isn’t at least 99.9985% pure, it may not be returned to the Gulf of Mexico.
So, the Dutch vessels get it less than 99.9985% pure. And it’s obviously better to do nothing than do that. Because bureaucracy says so.
It’s just a flesh wound.
I think that sums up Denis Henigan claiming victory in McDonald. He and Helmke get their talking points together pretty fast.
Because they don’t have to think anymore. And if they think it takes the gun issue off the table, they’re fooling themselves. This is the beginning and not the end.
The Zach Wamp for governor campaign emails:
“I applaud the Supreme Court today for strongly upholding our Second Amendment rights to keep and bear arms. Some folks, like Mayor Bill Haslam of Knoxville and Mayor Michael Bloomberg of New York City, tried to limit or take away this constitutional right.
The Supreme Court made clear today that no government jurisdiction – federal, state or local – can significantly limit the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Tennesseans, and I am very pleased by the ruling.
Those who think like Mayor Haslam and Mayor Bloomberg should take note that this nation’s highest court has once again affirmed that the people’s right to bear arms is protected by the U.S. Constitution.”

Kagan says gun cases are settled law.
That sounds familiar. And we know the Wise Latina came down against civil rights.
ETA: Remember AHSA’s endorsement?
In Junior’s gymnastics class, one of the girls has two mommies. No big deal. Doesn’t bother me. They’re a charming couple and nice enough. However, I had reservations about having the gay talk with a six year old. I can’t imagine how the conversation would go since her understanding of anything relating to a relationship consists of moms and dads. And her understanding of the differences between the sexes consists of boys have wieners and making poop jokes. So, I was kind of worried about how that conversation would go and how awkward it would be for me. Still, I figured I’d have to man up and talk about it. And I might even have to get a copy of Heather Has Two Mommies to go with our monstrous library of kids’ books.
But an interesting thing happened. Nothing.
She’s never asked. It’s never come up.
As a general rule, it’s a bad idea to post a video of yourself committing a felony on youtube. But this Brady Campaign video shows a Virginia resident buying a handgun out of state at a gun show (ETA: Go to about 2:15). And that is a crime. Also, looks to be a straw purchase.
And he admits to illegal purchases in other states.
And they say it’s all legal, which it’s not. That is, presuming, that what happened in the video is what really happened. As we’ve learned from other folks who go undercover and report that they did something legal at a gun show (which turns out not to be), the story changes quickly. Ask the Boston Globe’s Steve Bailey.
Unless I’m missing something.
They yammer on about how it could result in suits in Tennessee, noting that it would have little impact since TN’s laws aren’t that restrictive.
Seconds Matter: PhD student in sociology writing her dissertation on the gun rights movement. Including 45 versions of the second amendment.
The Chicago Tribune has a poll, basically asking which gun control ideas are you for.
Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
