More humand then the gas chamber IMHO.

  2. cargosquid Says:

Of course its humane. He’s dead and no more innocents will be killed. Oh, you meant for him…..yeah. He requested it.

  3. Spook45 Says:

Better question…..WHO CARES. If he did something bad enough to get the death penalty I dont CARE if it is humane or not, I am moore worried about the Victims.
I think the condemned said it best, his statement was”Ilived by the gun and now I will die by the gun” he gets my vote….

  4. Monty Says:

It was his choice, I don’t see the point in second guessing it.

If it were up to me, any person challenging a particular method of execution should be required to suggest a reasonable alternative that they would prefer. You want to sue over the method of lethal injection, fine, just tell us how you’d prefer to die, if the state agrees, no need to litigate. (obviously the choice would need to be reasonable, firing squad, hanging, beheading, nothing silly like death by sex)

  5. nk Says:

What? Should we have run him over with bus?

Discussing this with some physician friends, the least painful methods they could devise was a huge overdose of a narcotic or anesthetic, or smashing the head flat under a very heavy falling weight. One produces gradual but unconscious death, the other produces immediate and total cessation of brain activity. I don’t think method matters as much as certainty of result.

  7. Weer'd Beard Says:

4 shots at close range from a .30-30 aimed at the center of his chest.

Only way it could have been better was a head-shot. He probably felt SOMETHING, but pain or suffering, I doubt it. Too much trauma and loss of blood pressure.

  8. JKB Says:

While being put to death was imposed up on him, the method of death was his choice. He was able to exercise some control, within the limits of acceptable methods. At least believing you have some control has been shown to improve happiness. By giving him the right of choice in how he would die, they improved his execution as much as possible. Therefore, his execution was humane

More humane than whackos at The Human Society.

Amazingly, I find myself in agreement with Spook45 for once. Who cares if it’s “humane” if he did something worth the death penalty? As long as there’s no intent to cause any more suffering than is incidental to causing a quick death, any pain such a person feels when they’re executed leaves me entirely unmoved.

Honestly, I think lethal injection is needlessly cruel, psychologically. After they strap you down like they would for any other method, some schmuck who doesn’t get a lot of practice starting IV’s uses you as a pincushion, then they paralyze you before giving you hopefully enough sedative to actually knock you out, then they give you a drug that burns like fire if you’re still conscious (which you can’t tell them because you’re paralyzed) before it actually stops your heart.

Just shoot him and get it done with, don’t drag it out in a misguided effort to “minimize his suffering.”

  11. Weer'd Beard Says:

I’m 100% with Jake. Lethal Injection is a horribly over-thought and has the potential to being VERY brutal if the drugs are administered or tolerated different than expected.

I still don’t see why if they want to give somebody a needle just use one IV of sedative (morphine or barbiturate would be a good choice)until pulmonary arrest occurs. Essentially those drugs retard respiration and an overdose will cause breathing to stop, all while your brain is totally flooded with a drug people on the street for a pleasant high.

Or a shot to the head, or a long-drop hanging. All do the job quickly and cleanly with little pain or suffering to the victim.

I see no need for retribution or revenge. I just don’t want them hurting any more people (inside or outside prison) and I’d rather not pay to feed somebody until they rot to death in a cell inside a prison.

IMHO, the death penalty should be administered by hanging only. Then, there would be less damage to any vital organs that could be used to save an innocent persons life. By shooting him with a 30-30, you wasted 4 rounds that could have been used to get a deer or two (thus feeding a poor family for a few months), plus the damaged heart and lungs could have been transplanted. What ever happened to “repaying your debt to society?”

Hanging can be tricky. Too short of a drop, and they slowly suffocate. Too long, and you get a graphic (although probably hilarious, in a twisted sort of way) head-being-ejected-from-body scenario. Not that I would have any issue with either, just pointing it out 🙂

Perhaps, but the process and parameters to avoid those scenarios have been well established over the centuries. Society has had a lot of experience with hangings, and getting it right.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
