Sounds like a good idea to me. Texas course is full of BS and silliness and the range requirement a joke. Plus it takes too long even though the TSRA keeps getting the legislature to cut out some of the idiot requirements. (no new fingerprints and photos every renewal these days)
Also have to note that the DPS…charged with administering the program BY LAW at the true COST of said program turned out to make millions on it. Which they wouldn’t give back to the general fund.
So a pox on their house. Permits shouldn’t be required.
As a veteran and TX resident, I prefer the non resident FL CHL. I don’t have to waste a weekend and it saves me about $120 on a class and a box of ammo.
Shooting 50 rounds in a class is not going to make anyone proficeint. So I don’t get my boxers in a bunch about there being no “range time” requirement.
Years ago I took the TX class to get my first CHL. Seems today folks would be better served having to watch Magpul’s Art of the Dynamic Handgun DVD in the class if they are required to sit there for 10 hours anyway.
