Killswitch
Senate approves panel approves the idea of a kill switch for the internet. This is a colossally bad idea.

The Kill Switch is a Red Herring to distract from the real purpose of the bill: Monitoring and control of the entire Internet and suppression of alternative media.
Everyone will be so, “OMG INTERNET KILL SWITCH!!!” that the rest will slip through with little notice.

The intent of the bill is to use a legitimate threat as a way to gain control of the New Media. If things get uncomfortable for President Thinskin H. Obama, shut down the internet until the problem goes away.
On the other hand we do have a legitimate security problem. So we probably do need a way to at least make the US an internet island. But response time should be measured in seconds, not the weeks, months, or years that have characterized this administration.
If any such measure is to be made into law, give monitoring and shutdown authority to the military. Because the military is much more trustworthy than the politicians. As long as the civilians keep their powder dry.

Nonsense, if Obama (or any POTUS for that matter) shuts down the internet over Blogs, killing the internet would create a severe backlash and only make the problem worse.
In some respects, I’m actually OK with the Killswitch. Using it would be a pretty good indicator that it’s time to hole up and grab your guns.
Because if something is going on that is so bad as to require taking down the entire internet, there’s definitely a enemy worth shooting.

And not neccessarily of foreign origin.
