Seems to me that the list they’ve provided covers all of the most common crimes. Guess it’s a good time to live in Oakland and be a criminal.

They’re laying off 80 cops which is 10% of the workforce. So in a city with a population over 400,000 they have 800 cops? Is it just me or does that seem like an awfully small number.

I don’t know about Kalifornia, but in Virginia burglary is defined as breaking and entering “into the dwelling house of another in the nighttime with intent to commit a felony or any larceny therein.” So, if there’s an intruder in your home at night, the cops won’t respond?
Oh, wait. They don’t actually have to protect people.

Michael Trujillo allegedly used a .357 SIG Sauer semi-automatic handgun he stole from his mother’s boyfriend — state police Officer Trace Spoonhoward — to shoot Aguayo an estimated 14 times, according to a probable cause statement written by the detective. The dispute between the two centered on Michael Trujillo’s resentment of a friendship between Aguayo and a girl, according to the statement.
Michael Trujillo and the girl went to the mall together Thursday afternoon to meet Aguayo, with whom Michael Trujillo wanted to talk. When Michael Trujillo and the girl arrived, Aguayo and Michael Trujillo got out of their cars and began to approach each other, the statement says.
“It was at that time that (the girl) noticed that Michael (Trujillo) was holding a handgun as he was walking toward Chris Aguayo,” according to the statement. “(The girl) said that she immediately got out of the car and ran between Michael (Trujillo) and Chris Aguayo. (The girl) said she told Michael Trujillo ‘no, don’t do this, you don’t have to do this, don’t shoot him.’ ”
However, Michael Trujillo allegedly pushed her out of the way and shot Aguayo several times. The girl then saw Aguayo fall to the ground.
“Michael Trujillo then walked over to where Chris Aguayo was lying and fired the handgun into Chris Aguayo several more times,” the probable cause statement says. “(The girl) said that Chris Aguayo was not in possession of any weapons.”
Michael Trujillo and the girl then fled in his car. When police pulled them over 15 to 20 minutes later, they found a handgun in plain view in a compartment on the driver’s door.
“I know I did wrong,” Michael Trujillo said after police arrested him, according to the report. Aguayo “didn’t do (anything), I was just pissed at him because he was talking (smack). I know the gun wasn’t the answer, I don’t know, I just … panicked and he was pissing me off … ”
Michael Trujillo said he went to the meeting armed because Aguayo was a gang member and was usually armed, according to the statement.
“(H)e started coming towards my car, so I got out and shot him,” Michael Trujillo told police, according to the probable cause statement. “I shot the whole gun, there’s no more bullets in that gun. I shot them all at him … “

The interwebs stole my headline: “Kid steals cop’s gun, shoots another kid over a girl.”

What a bunch of idiots! If there were things crimes they weren’t going to respond to, out of protest, or whatever petty little reason, then WHY WOULD YOU MAKE A LIST? What’s more, why would they make it public? Are they TRYING to get cops killed?

Sounds like the same things the chicago police do not enforce.

Next will the Oakland police department publicize a list of fees to be paid by citizens who wish to report crimes?
And will the next compilation of crimes in Oakland note an amazing drop in the number of crimes in the categories listed?
July 13th, 2010 at 1:11 pm
That’s a pretty long list. Probably longer than what they WILL respond to.
Why even have a P.D. if they’re not going to do their job?

@jeff the baptist, thats actual a pretty good ratio of police.
The charlotte mecklenberg area is about 1,750,000 population with ~1,800 police.
Thats about 1 cop/2,000 people in oakland & 1 cop/3,900 in charlotte on duty at most times(remember the total number of police is spilt into 4 shifts normally).

Charlotte mecklenburg. Isn’t that where they are having problems with cops that like to hit women and troopers that like to feel them up?
July 13th, 2010 at 7:40 pm
Yes, but not at the same time (usually).
I write as a born and bred Mecklenburgian. Mecklenburger? Mecklenburgite? Mecklenburgitian? Anyway, I was born in Charlotte and lived in a suburb city (10 miles outside town then, now surrounded by Charlotte) until I left for college.
My swim coach when I was but a wee sprog was a Charlotte police officer, Frank Christmas. He got his name in the newspaper once for disarming a suspect during a drug bust. Until he himself explained otherwise at our next practice, my older brother had me convinced that coach had pulled the guy’s arms off. Yes, he was that tough.

Most of them seem not too hurtingly serious, but some are right nasty, like extortion and burglary. I usedta kinda think that burglary is a “respond right now” kind of crime. I guess that from now on, when reporting a burglary there, you’ll have to lie and tell them the burglar is still in your house, and when they get there, tell them he ran away. Hey, if it’s OK for the Badge Bearers to lie to you, it’s OK for you to lie to them!
