I think once a hiding place has been posted on the internet, it’s not so secret anymore. Judging from the recent ransacking of a friend’s house, at least half those hiding places are well-known (i.e. cereal boxes were dumped, drawers taken out and turned over to expose fake bottoms, pictures and clocks taken down, closets emptied, etc.)
Except for the “quick access” places, all of those are second best to a good gun safe.
The quick access places are only “good” because their point is not prevent theft but to allow unobtrusive storage while allowing quick access. They are not intended to actually secure a firearm at all.
If you want to secure your guns, get a safe. If you want, you can combine a safe with a hiding place, but it’s not secure unless it’s under lock & key (or a good combination lock) inside a strong, difficult to move metal box.
