Quote of the Day
Alan:
Texas still has a functional economy because we only let the state legislature meet for a few months every other year.

Riiiiight, it has nothing to do with all that illegal immigrant labor that’s down there. No taxes, no insurance, no minimum wage, no employee benefits for Texas employers.
Now, if we could only expand that nationwide!

New Hampshire too. Not to mention all the stuff Shootin’ Buddy said.
Seems to work, we should try it elsewhere!

Yes and thank God!
Otherwise back when Ann Richardson was Governor we would have been bankrupt!
Samuel Clements (Mark Twain) was right about people being (less) safe and congress being in session.

There aren’t all that many illegal alien’s working in the energy sector, or the insurance sector, or the tech sector.
Must be all of that cheap labor for lawns and small business manufacturing that prop up the other sectors of our economy.
Oh wait, Shootin’ Buddy doesn’t know what the hell he’s talking about. I forget that some of the time.
Gotta remember that expertise in one field does not carry over into other fields.
Now, we don’t pay people to sit on their asses as long as other states, unemployment only goes for 8 weeks or so.

Plus, we encourage the lege to have as many all out brawls as necessary to prevent legislation from being passed.

“There aren’t all that many illegal alien’s [sic] working in the energy sector, or the insurance sector, or the tech sector.”
In Texas? There are hordes of illegal aliens in the energy, insurance and tech sectors. Who do you think is working in the oil field or windmills farms of Tejas? Who is being hired for the phony insurance scams down there or who is overstaying their H-1Bs at Dell?
The state is packed full of grifters and they have a steady supply of pigeons and helpers in Mexico and Washington D.C. As long as Uncle Sam overlooks the grifting Texans will exploit the shit out of the illegals and then whine about their presence.
I’ll never forget visiting friends in Dallas when their neighbor came over to yammer about “dem emmygrants” while his lawn crew was packing up and talking about the last time they saw their families in Mexico.
I’m glad Texas is grifting its way to a hotter economy, but the rest of us have to pay for your party.

What interesting news, Shootin’ Buddy, I did not realize that Texas was the only state in the Union to have illegal immigrant labor in the landscaping business …
Amazing what I learn here.

Well, New Hampshire WILL once again have a vibrant economy (and a balanced budget)…it’ll just have to wait until late December when the new sheriffs are sworn in.
July 28th, 2010 at 12:38 am
The rest of the country is paying for the grifting of Texas? Do explain.

I will try. ‘Mebbe Texas should follow Arizona’s lead here, cut off the border. We’re full. Sorry, we love you, and all that, but we’re full. We can’t take anyone else.We have all we can handle.

Shootin’ Buddy…. you’re just wrong. Landscape workers – ok. Farm workers down in the Valley – ok. Oil and gas? Pah! Working on a rig is a pretty desirable job and the only way for folks with a high school education and no special skills to earn $20-$30/hr. Same way with the wind farms. I know 30-something rednecks that work their asses off in both areas, and they both make pretty good money for doing it. There’s citizens lining up for jobs in both industries for well above minimum wage. I have not heard of an oil well worker making less than $18/hr in the past 5 years, and that’s for the very lowest on the totem pole. Of course they all get laid off and the rigs shut down when oil and gas prices crash, but when they have jobs, they make good money.

I live in Texas guys, there are NO illegals in the gas and oil industry except those running lawn mowers.
Insurance industry? No… they may pay the insurers for car insurance (and many of the companies do have spanish speaking people to take their money) but no, no illegals work in that either.
