Poodle Shooter
The NYT notes the huge increase in excise tax collections that was caused by the Great Obama Gun Rush.
States with stricter gun controls are less safe. More a chicken and egg issue, though. Places that are less safe tend to get increases in gun control because it’s what you do instead of something. It doesn’t help but it gives the appearance that politicos are doing something. Even if it’s the wrong thing.
And number of handguns up 50% and murder down 52%.
Some numbers here.
Glock has donated a pistol to the event.
And here are the raffle rules.
An article on where to start. Via Tam, who brings the funny:
Beware the man with one trainer, as he has probably been successfully marketed to.
First, it’s damn hot. Second, you can’t get there from here.
Simple lunch time errand. Go to Coal Creek Armory, purchase Glock 17 (3rd Gen) so I can snag one of those Tactical Solutions 22LR conversion kits. Except that traffic was a horrendous nightmare. Lovell Road is the pinnacle of traffic engineering failure. At the light for three rotations. And three more on the way out. 20 minute round trip was more like 50.
And no G17 3rd Gen in stock. Denied. They had a fourth generation.
I did, however, laugh aloud at the Prius in the parking lot at the gun shop.
And I’m annoyed that I’m wearing gay shoes.
We’ve known for a while that the largest growing segment of shooters was women. Now, it looks like women are taking to hunting too:
More women than men took up hunting last year, according to new net figures from the National Sporting Goods Association.
While total hunters in the U.S. decreased slightly (.05 percent) between 2008 and 2009, the number of female hunters increased by 5.4 percent, netting 163,000 new participants. Growth areas for women included muzzleloading (up 134.6 percent), bowhunting (up 30.7 percent) and hunting with firearms (up 3.5 percent).
Data also show women outpaced men among net newcomers to target shooting with a rifle, where female participation grew by 4.1 percent.
SAF and Gura are going to New York:
The Second Amendment Foundation has filed a federal lawsuit against Westchester County, New York and its handgun permit licensing officers, seeking a permanent injunction against enforcement of a state law that allows carry licenses to be denied because applicants cannot show “good cause.”
SAF is joined in the lawsuit by Alan Kachalsky and Christina Nikolov, both Westchester County residents whose permit applications were denied. Kachalsky’s denial was because he could not “demonstrate a need for self protection distinguishable from that of the general public.” Nikolov’s was denied because she could not demonstrate that there was “any type of threat to her own safety anywhere.” In addition to Westchester County, Susan Cacace and Jeffrey Cohen, both serving at times as handgun permit licensing officers, are named as defendants. The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, White Plains Division.
Some documents here. And a note that Kachalsky has sued before over this issue.
Good.
ACLU petitions court to get man’s guns returned from Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Has the ACLU changed its position in actions and words now? Looks to be:
“Under the Second Amendment, he has a right to have his guns in his house. He’s not a convicted felon,” Butin said. “It is unusual for the ACLU. But the ACLU supports all constitutional rights. We don’t pick and choose.”
Good.
It might be in a black hole. That is interesting.
Stupid universe. Always pissing me off. Now, more evidence that there’s more than one. I’m outnumbered.
So says Wayne LaPierre. Well, get on that, Wayne. We’ve been waiting.
I don’t read/speak French, but the author emailed me to say that these are guns banned in Chicago. And older model pocket gun and an competition 22?
Pretty funny. CalGuns announced a pro-gun demonstration at the Legal Community Against Violence’s annual dinner. The anti-gunners, presuming others are violent, freaked out and had the cops show up. But the CalGuns folks never showed. It was a joke.
After action report here.
Pema Levy brings teh stoopid:
For this reason, gun control should be a feminist issue. Not only do gun control laws protect women, but current anti-gun regulation efforts are targeted specifically at laws that save women’s lives. There appears to be a lack of collaboration between feminists and advocates for sensible gun laws, despite the common interest the groups appear to share
Actually, gun control laws protect no one. Read in the news all the time where some estranged dude walks right through a restraining order and kills a woman. But an armed woman can cut the chance of recidivism to zero. Via Jeff, who notes:
Maybe more “feminists” are realizing that playing the perpetual victim is the most un-liberating state you can be in.
B B & Guns coming soon to Blog Talk Radio. Features a couple of gun blogging chicks you may have heard of.
Another look from Sebastian. Seems Daley wants to restrict the rights of those with 20/50 vision. You can drive but not own a gun. Also, some of the paperwork is impossible to complete.
CCW Breakaways. I actually did a video interview of these guys at NRA convention. But haven’t gotten around to editing it yet. It’s a neat concept in that you can carry a full size gun and spare mags in pockets. And the pockets breakaway on the draw.
Here’s how they work.
Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
