It is now beyond doubt that the Administration is determined to say as little as possible about the plague of gun violence that inflicts death and injury on 300 Americans every day. When forced to comment on proposals to strengthen our anemic federal gun laws, the President and his representatives typically fall back on the gun lobby’s canard, “We don’t need new gun laws. We need to enforce the laws on the books.”

I question that alleged daily number, but “gun violence” is necessarily bad. When lives are defended and saved from criminal activity by gun violence from armed citizens or LEO, that’s good!
Also, gun violence is and has always been a good thing when it is used in resistance against tyranny.

300/day = 109,500/year
According to the CDC there were only 269,871 firearms deaths from all causes from 1999-2007, which makes an average over those 9 years of 32,986/year, or 90/day.
Blatant lies. I guess that’s all they have left.

I’m not going to try to track down the numbers but they did _not_ say 300 _deaths_ per day: “… gun violence that inflicts death and injury on 300 Americans every day.”
If 90 per day is the correct average for _deaths_ then an additional 210 _injuries_ per day seems _plausible_. Not saying that is correct, just that it is plausible.

I wonder if the President would, in accordance with the 14th Amendment’s “equal protection of the laws”, apply any of his proposed gun laws to the Secret Service for him and his family?
You know the 14th Amendment, along with the 13th, overturned the 1857 SCOTUS Dred Scott decision keeping slavery of black people legal in the U.S. Chief Justice Taney, writing for the majority, pointed out that IF black people were declared persons under the Constitution and thus not subject to slavery, then they would have to be allowed to, not only keep, but CARRY arms wherever they go according to the 2nd Amendment.
Our President should be asked if he supports or opposes keeping that historical aspect of slavery.

How about some more proposals to strengthen our anemic Bill of Rights?
“We need to enforce the laws on the books.”
Not gun laws, unless we’re talking about the 2A as a “gun law”. Laws against assault, robbery, etc., sure, but notice they’re not being specific. Take the BATFE’s budget since 1934, combine it with the DEA’s budget for the last 30 years or so, give it all back to the taxpayers, and maybe we could afford to enforce laws on the local level against actual crime, where there are actual victims.

I have always wondered, when numbers like “300 a day” are quoted, about the following:
How many were in the commission of a crime?
How many are drug/alcohol related?
How many of these shootings were by persons who are illegally in possession of a firearm?
Never see these breakdowns in the press.
