More 380 blogging
In my bleg about 380 yesterday where you told me to carry a 45 or 38*, CTone notes a discussion about Hornady Critical Defense at arfcom.
And ericire12 links to 380 gel tests that have the benefit of being done with a Kel-Tec, which I carry. Probably gonna go with Corbon.
* Yay for staying on topic and I do carry 45s. But not always realistic. If I could carry whatever, I’d walk around with a fucking carbine but that’s just not socially acceptable.

In my own defense I did mention my J-Frame because its about the same size-class, but offers a bit more punch, and a LOT more ammo availability from the hell that is owning a .380.
In .45 news, I want one of these so bad my teeth hurt!

Yeah I’d love to carry my 1911 every day…but if I can stuff a .45 in my pocket that would make me VERY happy. Of course I live in Massachusetts (where Kahrs are made) so I can’t…

I dont even think that its not because it isnt socially accaeptable as much as it is that the idiocrats would cry and scream. In some places, like parts of Montana, they are allowed to carry long guns and many people do. I think it will degrade(or upgrade depending on ur viewpoint) in the coming year as things become more financialy UNHINGED.

Good choice on the CorBon – I got an average velocity of 1,007 fps from the 80gr DPX in the P3AT. Accurate too.
Thanks for the link!

I said yesterday that my choice would be DPX (I have a Kel-Tec P32 that I sometimes carry and use regular Corbon in) I will also add that Gold Dot will actually give you the 12 inch FBI penetration (if thats your thing) so really that might be the best overall combination of penetration and expansion…. I just like the DPX’s 65 caliber expansion!
*I will also note that Michale Bane has said on several occasions that he carries DPX in his LCP – FWIW

Not only that, but it turns into a pain in the ass real fast, just getting in and out of the car with it.

I use the flat-tip Dynomite-Nobel sub-gun ammo I bought years ago alternated with 85gr Fiochi HP. The Nobel stuff was Spanish isse and has an exposed-lead nose.

Just hang an AR15 pistol around the neck Tuco style.

I understand the want for to carry a carbine. I would carry a full on battle rifle if I would not have a police escort everywhere I went.

If I could carry whatever, I’d walk around with a fucking carbine but that’s just not socially acceptable.
A pair of ivory-handled .36 Navies for me in a red silk sash, if I could still grow my hair down to my shoulders. 😉
Seriously, a S&W Model 19 in a Jordan holster were I to live in an open carry state. Gosh, that is one beautiful little gun.

…Not socially acceptable yet.
I’ll be carrying a FAL when it is.

If you liked the link to the gel tests, go to youtube and search for powrball. Corbon has some nice super slow mo video of several different calibers of powerball and DPX shot into ballistic gel including 380.

The lady in the video got lucky that her 5+ second pocket draw time was just barely fast enough.
Speed, power, accuracy. Tiny guns with crappy sights and long heavy triggers, drawn from pockets, fail on speed and accuracy even if you give them a pass on “power”. With so many .38 snubs and compact 9s available, most with better triggers and better sights, I just don’t understand the 380 fad at all.

I have to have my shirt tucked in most of the time. If my shirt is untucked, I can normally keep a subcompact 9mm hidden, but with my shirt tucked in, I can’t. It just doesn’t work. I’ve got a fairly thin build and the geometry won’t work.
So…a .380 in the pocket is better than nothing at all.

A carbine that throws leads seems preferable to one that throws jizz. But, hey, whatever floats your boat…
August 11th, 2010 at 1:03 am
Obviously, that should have been singular “lead”, not plural.

Rehn, .380 IS 9mm, dummy.

fyi,
try corbon before buying a lot. It jams at least one P3AT quite reliably.
