Blagojevich
I heard on the news this morning he was charged only with lying to the feds and not the other 20+ charges of being a politician err trying to sell a senate seat. They interviewed a juror who said everyone but one other juror was voting guilty but this one juror kept holding out. If I were an investigator of some sort, I’d be watching her bank account for any unusual deposits.
Just saying.

Has it ever occurred to you that perhaps we should charge them for being politicians???

He had very good lawyers. If anyone could create reasonable doubt in the mind of at least one juror, they could. I’ve known them since the seventies, when they were defending mobsters and I was monitoring the cases for the Chicago Crime Commission.

Eh, I think this goes in the “never blame on conspiracy what can be as readily explained by stupidity”. You’d figure out of 12 people there’s probably going to be at least one idiot.

hey, it’s the Chicago Way!

No, he was charged with 24 counts; he was only convicted of lying to the FBI, the other 23 hung (mistrial).
The USA immediately advised Zagel (the judge) that he would retry the 23 hung counts.
Blago will likely have new lawyers as I cannot see his current attorneys sticking around. I could foresee another trial next spring.

You misunderstand the Chicago Way: there will be no payout to the holdout juror. That juror just dodged a bullet, or more likely, a garbage truck on an empty, early morning street. Threats cost less than bribes, and are more readily deniable, and harder to trace. That’s the Chicago Way!

I wonder if it’s possible that one juror actually remembered what juries are for, and didn’t believe the government made its case beyond a reasonable doubt?

The chicago way is all 12 of the jurors were threatened but just 1 did not take it seriously.
