Anschutz Boycott
Ernst emails:
Two days ago it came to light, that the well known German gun manufacturer Anschütz cooperates with Armatix. The latter firm is active in the field of smart guns and gun blocking systems. Armatix is heavily involved in political lobbying here in Germany, which lead to changes in our arms law in July 2009. Since then, the government is allowed to order the use of biometrical blocking systems on every single gun.
Read about it in German here. Or here for the English version.

there goes that $8,000 air gun I’ve wanted since never.

Maybe their founder will move on and they can get back to being an upstanding part of the gun community again soon… Politics sucks.
The only Anschutz in the family is a damn fine youth .22 bolt action. Never have seen another one which is a shame. It’s got the best trigger in the stable. I’m looking forward to teaching the nephew on it in five or so years.

The only Anschutz rifles I’ve handled, including the one I own, were build in the 1960s. I don’t really plan on buying a new one though, they cost way too much for me.

So far as I have been able to tell, the last American-made ISSF target rifle was made around 1993, and that was a junior model, for beginners only. The boycotters should let us know what they would have us buy instead.
There is also no match-grade smallbore ammunition made in the US. None.

The closest thing I could find Comatus was the Savage Mark I and II FVT.

If you don’t want a basic synthetic stock (and I don’t think you would for ISSF) they have a number of very nice wood stocks, but I don’t think they offer a production Olympic grade adjustable stock. However, for the cost of an Anschutz, you can easily have a stock made by some of the best stock makers in the country for one of these Savages. Now, if you want something faster than a 1:16 twist….

Thanks for the post, SayUncle!
You can download the original Anschutz-Armatix-flyer which advertises the smart gun technology here:

It is written in German and English.
And if you ask for alternatives: two other German companies make fine match rifles, both smallbore and air: Walther and Feinwerkbau.
