Straight from the Magpul trickbag; this looks to be video from one of their recent Tactical Carbine classes. They have several good sets of DVDs that are both entertaining and educational.
Neat trick, but you can’t retain your mag easily using it. Retaining mags may not be important in a firefight, but it can be really important when you resupply between them.
Yes, The magpul videos are excellent material and you can actually learn from the video and take it to the range and drill it. Thats the best part, while one on one instruction is the best, these videos are so comprohensive and detailed that you can pick a part, study it, drill it, analyze it and work some more and get some pretty finite skills from the drills. The 2nd series gets into more sophisticated operations and some tactics. Lots of shooting from cover and stuff. good vids.
I have enjoyed the magpul videos too. Just got the vol 2 carbine and handgun videos in, but haven’t watched them. The first carbine video was very good though.
As for the mag changes, they are fast assuming you don’t need the empties. So in competition, if your a cop or in a normal home defense situation it would be fine. But in the Zombie apocalypse you better keep the mags.
I must not practice enough, ’cause I’ve never had a mag fail to drop out of my ARs. Checking the ejection port however, with the right timing, is part of throwing the mag out. Neat trick I guess. Their videos are worth the watch.
Well it a nice thing to do when you don’t need the empty mags, or if you are rushing on your target… also you can easily release the bolt from the bolt catch, by snapping the stock with the right momentum
on your shoulder socket.
this way no repositioning of the left hand is needed (even better technique for lefties)
And on a side note it’s pretty fun.
