News Talk 98.7 reports that the sheriff’s department is getting folks discounts on gun safety courses at Coal Creek Armory.
An animal control employee took a pig that had been turned in home, butchered it, and ate it. People are upset. The pig would have probably been killed anyway.
The mayor is seeking input on whether his constituents think he should violate the state’s preemption law.
Ugh:
A 72-year-old woman was accidentally shot in the chest by her husband Sunday as the two trained for robbery scenarios, ClickOrlando.com is reporting.
Arnold Morris, 77, pulled the handgun out of his pocket during the “robbery drill” and accidentally fired it, hitting his wife,
Want to shoot suppressed 22s in the back yard. Have a few steel plates I’d like to use as targets. Need something to stop the bullets for both safety and, you know, that whole lead in the environment thing. Any suggestions on building a decent bullet trap?
I like to make my own salad dressing. I make Hawaiian and imitation Caesar (not real Caesar if there are no anchovies). Real easy to make, generally. The bases of them are either oil and vinegar or mayo and milk/cream.
I also kind of like to make up my own on occasion. The other night, I made this concoction:
1 cup of mayo
1/2 of milk
2 tablespoons of cider vinegar
1/2 teaspoon of shallot salt
A few sprigs of fresh dill
Mix ingredients.
It was delicious.
A post at ar15.com on 14.5 inch barreled shotguns:
I will post proof in a couple of days.
Basically if a shotgun comes from the factory with a pistol grip or it’s a virgin receiver never having had any stock other than a pistol grip it can have any barrel length and not be an AOW requiring form 1 or form 4.
There is a a requirement that is must still have an overall length from the furthest point of the pistol grip to the end of the barrel of 26 inches. (26 1/4 to be safe)
It must be smooth bore too.
This is not my opinion, this is fact and I will prove this in a couple of days , give or take a week or two.
Now if you have a 14 1/2 inch barrel and a standard pistol grip you will be under the mandated 26 inch rule.
I also have the answer for this.
If proof is an ATF letter, I wouldn’t rely on it.
Discussion of the self defense quick draw. And more here.
I can draw and fire center mass accurately in over a second but less than two. Not a real spiffy time but, you know, not a slouch either. And that’s with a Glock and a CompTac. It’s faster with a Serpa holster and much slower when I pocket carry.
Situational awareness is a good thing to have but it’s not going to solve every problem. Sometimes, things happen fast. So, yeah, I’ll work on that and the draw.
Anti-gun socialists dealing guns illegally? Why, it’s like they see the value in guns and capitalism.
Ernst emails:
Two days ago it came to light, that the well known German gun manufacturer Anschütz cooperates with Armatix. The latter firm is active in the field of smart guns and gun blocking systems. Armatix is heavily involved in political lobbying here in Germany, which lead to changes in our arms law in July 2009. Since then, the government is allowed to order the use of biometrical blocking systems on every single gun.
Read about it in German here. Or here for the English version.
I was unaware of this:
National lawmakers were in Chicago holding a Congressional hearing on proposed gun control legislation today
Seems they want to go after the gun show non-loophole.

Cracked: 7 Scientific Reasons a Zombie Outbreak Would Fail (Quickly):
. . . if Homo sapiens are good at one thing, it’s killing other things. We’re so good at it that we’ve made entire other species cease to exist without even trying. Add to the mix the sheer number of armed rednecks and hunters out there, and the zombies don’t even stand a chance.
Based on the results of the shooting tests, the [source selection board] recommended to the contracting officer that Sig Sauer’s handgun be excluded from further consideration as unacceptable with respect to reliability
I find this very odd. I’ve owned at least five Sigs and have never had an issue with any of them.
The new gun series: Illinoising
Challenging the Firearms Owners Identification Cards in Illinois.
I have this nice little lower receiver all built up and ready to go and an EOTech sitting around. The lower has an Vltor stock and a single point sling. I want to turn this one into a bug out carbine (even though some don’t think bug out guns are realistic).
I want it to do double duty as a bug out gun and to run courses with. So, needs to be lightweight. Only gizmos i’d put on it are a light mount so I don’t need a rail farm. I’m leaning toward a lightweight barrel and the Magpul MOE handguards. The MOE has slots for rails and is lightweight.
What say you?
Update and bump: Ok, i’ve decided I pretty much want to build this one.
Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
