Guns and Tennessee Politics
Haslam and the other guy are looking to get support from gun owners. Haslam joined the NRA after some one pointed out he was the member of an anti-gun group. Even Unnamed Democrat joins in on calling Haslam weak on gun rights.
John Harris of TFA says they probably won’t endorse anyone.
And for about the third time I can recall, the press mentions Haslam’s membership in the anti-gun Mayors Against Guns:
Haslam has said that he joined the Bloomberg group to help keep guns out of the hands of criminals, but that the he left after he determined the group was going “in a different direction.”
Ronnie Barrett, owner of the Barrett Firearms Manufacturing plant in Murfreesboro that Haslam visited Thursday, said in a phone interview that he can look beyond his former membership in the group.
“As soon as Haslam realized what it was all about he got out of it and told them to hit the road,” Barrett said. “That’s all in the past, he’s clarified that and has distanced himself from it.”
While the distancing himself from it is true, the part about him doing it quickly is not. He joined in 2006. Started distancing himself in January 2009. And he quit the group in March 2009. And I know several folks mentioned it to him.

Looks like we’re faced with the lesser of two evils. I personally believe Haslam doesn’t care one way or the other on gun rights. While that’s better than being an Anti, it could be bad.
However, the way the house and senate lean, we should be OK.
Unnamed Democrat may say he’s pro-gun, but the current democrat said he wouldn’t impede anti-gun legislation, either. We all know how that turned out.

The thing I want to know for the Gov candidates is will they obey Article I, Section 25 of the State Constitution which forbids martial law and the confiscation of guns from citizens.
That should also be true for any Federal declaration of martial law for which there is NO delegated power and would constitute criminal tyranny which should be resisted by any State Govenor. State declaration of rights trumps any Federal actions that violate them according to the 9th and 10th Amendments of the U.S. Constitution which reserves rights to the States and the People.

B-but, in 2006, Democrats were the PERMANENT MAJORITY, but by March of 2009, they clearly weren’t. It’s not fair to hold him to the same standard in 2006 and 2009…
