Obviously, they need separate restrooms and drinking fountains
Gun-toting participants at the upcoming open firearms carry picnic will have to disarm themselves before using the bathrooms in West Baraboo’s Haskins Park, village officials heard Thursday.
The event’s organizer is cooperating with the legal requirement and village officials don’t expect any problems or disturbances.
During the village board’s regular meeting attorney, Mark Steichen noted both the village ordinances and state law prohibit the carrying of firearms in public buildings. When that law is applied to the Sept. 25 picnic organized by advocates of the right to carry unconcealed firearms in public, the park’s restrooms are public buildings where open carry is prohibited, though the open-sided picnic pavilion is not, he said.

Yes, we dont want them taking guns into sensitive areas like… Restrooms ???
Think of the children!

Considering how often we read stories about some poor po-po losing their gun in a stall, this may be a good idea, heh, heh, heh.

The only obvious solution is for everyone who’s carrying to pee in the bushes.
September 10th, 2010 at 11:45 am
Pee in the bushes? How about peeing on the side of the restroom building? “Well, I can’t go inside, and I can’t leave my gun outside, so…”
September 10th, 2010 at 11:56 am
Yep, public urination for every single person carrying. Might even get them to change the ridiculous law.

If the people who authored this stupidity were any dumber, they’d be at room temperature.
September 10th, 2010 at 12:23 pm
Porta Pottie contract eminent, course they would need permission to site it…
September 10th, 2010 at 12:37 pm
Can they say “we dont like handgun carry even though it’s legal so we’re going to make things difficult for you” any louder?
September 10th, 2010 at 1:12 pm
Who wants the Gun Check Stall? $1.00 a piece while you go! Here’s your receipt, sir! Oh, wait, it’s probably illegal to give your weapon to a stranger to hold for you! Damn, guess they’ll have to ask someone whose Home is next to the Park to let them use their toilet. Or just shift the event to the Mayor’s house.

I suppose government agents (our employees) are exempted from this discriminatory denial of civil rights.

Of course, urinating in public can lead to making a cameo on the sex offender registries. There’s sure to be plenty of cops hanging around due to the violent nature and history of open carry picnics. So probably not a good idea.

Rig up a tube down your pants leg & piss on ’em all!!!!! Leave a puddle next to the drivers door on every police vehicle in sight.
September 11th, 2010 at 11:27 am
“Leave a puddle next to the drivers door on every police vehicle in sight.”
Brilliant. Cops didn’t make the law and they tend to be fellow gun owners. Gratutitously alienating allies is a good idea? Target the politicians who are to blame on election day. They hate that.

In a related story….
“West Baraboo officials today announced that gun owners would henceforth also have to ride in the back of public buses, take ‘literacy tests’ before registering to vote, and could not openly date or marry non-gun owners. ‘Simple public safety demands these measures!’ declared one West Baraboo official today.”

I’d hope the officials ban everyone from exercising the other Constitutional rights when entering public buildings . I’d hate to see anyone actually use them. Someone IS planning to file a suit over this Constitutional infringement, right?

Just to play devil’s advocate here, this might not be a bad thing. “Dropping Trou” while carrying a firearm on your belt is not without some challenges.
Actually, I can think of a few law enforcement or DOE security incidents that occured after a firearm was found on top of the tank in a vacant stall.

I think the people who came up with this saw The Godfather too many times.
September 11th, 2010 at 10:06 pm
Maybe the city council is afraid of propositioning people who are armed in said public restrooms? Buncha wide-stanced toe-tappers from the sound of it…

“WHITES ONLY” “BLACKS ONLY”
I remember those signs from when I was a small child in Chattanooga Tenn. where my mother worked downtown in the 50’s. I didn’t understand them then but I do now. It’s all about freedom and the rights of citizens to be unimpeeded by the .gov.
September 12th, 2010 at 6:43 am
I like the Port-a-pottie idea! Some simple signage would help…
Taped to the Port-a-pottie door would be: CITIZEN
Taped to the Public Restrooms would be: VICTIM
Just a little something to get the point across.
September 12th, 2010 at 7:25 am
Obviously they don’t want anyone shooting up in the bathroom.
September 12th, 2010 at 2:38 pm
Well, It’ll cut down of the whole “Mine is bigger than yours thing”… oops, maybe not.
