Coyotes
The NYT on urban coyotes. Last Wednesday, on was trotting through the field behind my house. Managed to get to the ridge before I could get a bead on it.

We lost a cat to a coyote once, although we just thought it had stayed out all night and gotten lost. I let the other cat out the next night to help #1 find its way home.
We got two new cats out of that little bit of education about suburban coyotes.
The oddest thing I have discovered about coyotes is that jets flying overhead set them all to yipping and howling. I wonder if they think a deep-voiced coyote god is flying overhead?

I saw one running through my farm yard one time in the winter, but the town was on the other side, so I never shoot big guns here.
