More on the AAC BlackOut
From PDB. There’s always the next big cartridge that’s going to replace the 5.56. But it doesn’t happen. And won’t until either a significant number of law enforcement agencies or the military switch.

I’d rather see someone develop .30cal depleted uranium bullets, so that we can finally have some real suppressed ballistics …

YAY! They have RE-INVENTED the 30-30. Duh. Will they start making ladder sights to compensate for the drop at, say, 400 yards? Or is this going to be a mini-mortar?

The problem with all of these new cartridges is that they are trying to replace one cartridge which does many things pretty well (accuracy, recoil, weight, price, lethality) with cartridges that do one or two things very well at the sacrifice of the other virtues. You might think that increasing lethality is more important than recoil, but it’s not. You might think that increasing accuracy is more important than price, but it’s not. etc, etc. People keep trying to build a better mouse trap, when really we should all be trying to invent a better mouse.
