Lines

You know, people tell me all the time that Islam is trying to take over western culture. And, you know, I usually have a laugh about it and don’t pay it much mind. But then I see a Muslim policeman doesn’t have to protect Jews and that a school district, despite a wall of separation, is set to observe Muslim holidays and I start to wonder.

Just because it might not be a vast conspiracy doesn’t mean it’s not happening…

I hate to get all tin foil hatted on you, but remember that the USSR truly did attempt to turn the US communist slowly but surely via various methods of indoctrination (see Kevin Baker’s extensive documenting of this, especially regarding education).

I’m not sure there’s a single conspiracy to make the US into a Muslim country, but there was and still is a concerted effort to remove the concept of ‘being American’ which is allowing things like this to happen.

When kids are constantly told they must be ‘tolerant’ (but never toward anything libertarian or conservative, mind you!), that all cultures are equal, that America has been a source of bad and should be shamed for its actions, well, this is the end result.

Yes, the police thing happened in Britain, but you know how little the distance between our countries matter any more when it comes to poisonous political ideas.

The Muslim Brotherhood recently declared war on the US.

The US isn’t at war with Islam but Islam is most assuredly at war with the US.

  4. SayUncle Says:

Don’t they do that every week or so?

  5. Jay G. Says:

Maybe I’m still on a testosterone-fueled bender from this weekend, but my response is a simple two words:

    BRING. IT.

  6. ParatrooperJJ Says:

Or Muslims that don’t have to wash their arms before entering an OR. (UK).

  7. mikee Says:

Any large enough group of folks in a school district will get their holidays off. Greek Orthodox get different Holy Days off in some areas. Heck, Columbus Day is still a federal holiday, is it not, and I don’t know how many folks still see a reason for that.

On the other hand, how can an officer tell the religion of a crime victim accurately enough to discriminate on that basis? Because I still can’t always correctly ID heretics on first glance, myself, despite being taught by nuns as a child.

Well, since police in the U.S. aren’t required to provide protection to anyone, isn’t this just a symptom of a larger disease?
But I am getting a little tired of this pussyfooting and kowtowing to one religious affiliation over all others. And people like Ahmedinejad spouting his, “wipe Israel off the map” rhetoric definitely do not help build my tolerance for their cause.

  10. Ellen Says:

I believe the standard leftist answer to questions like this is “But This is Different.” We are no longer allowed to compare people with other people, so why should we be allowed to compare ideologies?

  11. Phenicks Says:

    Mikee,
“On the other hand, how can an officer tell the religion of a crime victim accurately enough to discriminate on that basis?”

Easy, look for the yamaka (skull cap).

  12. Heather Says:

I don’t get the problem people have with school days. I’ve worked in a LOT of districts – if there’s a large Catholic population, they get Good Friday off. If not, then they don’t. If there’s a large Jewish population, they get those holidays off. If not, they don’t. Don’t see why it should be different for Muslims.

  13. David Dyer-Bennet Says:

Don’t see why giving Muslims their holidays is any worse than giving Christians theirs, which nearly all school districts in the US do.

  14. Guav Says:

That school district observes Christian and Jewish holidays as well—so why not a Muslim holiday while they’re at it?

That being said, no “seperation of church and state naysayers” who opposed schools observing Christian and/or Jewish holidays would support observing a Muslim one, which is what StuckInMassachusetts seems to be implying.

  15. SayUncle Says:

That school district observes Christian and Jewish holidays

Do they? My kids’ school does not. There is winter break, fall break, spring break, and federal holidays.

  16. Guav Says:

Yes, they do, according to the very link that Jay at StuckInMassachusetts posted …

Cambridge School Committee member Marc McGovern … says Cambridge schools close for some Christian and Jewish holidays and Muslims should be treated the same.

… although he neglected to include that part of the article in his post—guess it didn’t fit with his “MUSLINS GETTING SPECIAL LIBERAL TREATMENT!” narrative or something.

  17. Guav Says:

Of course, being one of those “separation of church and state naysayers” myself, I don’t think schools should observe any religious holidays. But Jay’s post is misleading.

  18. Gunmart Says:

Guav, the idea behind “speration of church and state” is to keep the state from infinging on the church. Not the other way around.

  19. ATLien Says:

The State Department paying for an Imam to travel the world preaching Islam is more against the 1st Am. than this. It all sucks, tho.

  20. SayUncle Says:

    Yes, they do,

Ah diversity. Then no foul other than why they’re observing religious holidays to begin with.

  21. Guav Says:

Gunmart, the idea behind it was that religion and government should stay separate for the benefit of both—Government shouldn’t be in the religion business, and the church (or mosque or synagogue) shouldn’t be in the government business.

    Sounds good to me.

  22. ATLien Says:

Guav the real reason was of the English and their cycle of oppression against protestants/catholics based on the personal religion of the king at the time. Such as the King being the head of the CoE. Catholics were oppressed when this happened. Then when a catholic king came around it would flip the other way and the protestants were oppressed an murdered.

  23. Drake Says:

Muslim sensibilities matter to me less and less each day.

  24. Guav Says:

Tell that to Gunmart, not me.

  25. SPQR Says:

All that the First Amendment stated was that there would not be a National Church. In contrast to the Anglican church being the official, national British church.

    Nothing more.

The rest is a modern invention. “Separation of Church and State” as a phrase comes from Jefferson who not only did not write the Constitution or its amendments, he opposed their adoption.

  26. Guav Says:

We all know that the specific quote “Separation of Church and State” comes from Jefferson, but the concept in the colonies predates his letter by 150 years and is hardly a modern invention.

  27. Guav Says:

Throughout human history right up until today, religious folk of almost all creeds, cults and denominations tend to have among them a great many maniacal busybodies who insist on persecuting, banning, attacking or even killing those who do not subscribe to their particular flavor of imaginary friend, and demanding conformity of belief in their own system of wholescale delusion.

If people who chose to believe in gods could just believe what they want to believe without trying to cram it down everyone else’s throats, we wouldn’t need laws and protections.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
