Today’s Idiot
A colossal case of teh stoopid:
The license tax is equal to one-half percent of gross receipts from sales to consumers in the city. The state does not allow telephone companies to pass the tax on to consumers, Stromberg said.
Uh uh. I’m sure the phone company just takes a hit on its revenue. Idiot.

He has to be a liberal. That whole “wishing makes it so” thing is a tell.

Whenever the government says “you can’t charge your customers this tax” companies get someone to sit in front of a computer for 10 minutes or so to figure out exactly how much they have to raise prices to keep revenues steady. I’m sure every business management textbook in existence has a formula to figure it out – it’s not really that difficult.

Portsmouth, VA is a very liberal area, and all a politician has to do to be elected is be black and democrat. The former mayor would still be getting reelected if he hadn’t committed sexual harassment.
The city is a pit, and the city council can’t grasp that their policies are keeping it that way.

I’m sure he means it.
I’ve had the conversation where some leftist will refuse to admit that companies look at the taxes they pay in order to determine the price of their goods or services.
There’s income and outgo, taxes are included in outgo.
Leftists refuse to believe that.
They actually think that corporations pay taxes and do not increase their prices.

It’s because they can’t seem to grasp that customers are the only source of income for corporations. The government never thinks about who ultimately pays for everything that they do, so they certainly don’t think about how it works in private industry.

The phone company calls it a fee and then everything is just fine and dandy, it not being a tax and all.
