Familiar Tale
I was anti-gun, until I got stalked.
BTW, anyone know why Jeff’s RSS feed hasn’t updated since September?

I read comments on posts like that, looking for anything new in the gun-rights vs anti-rights arguments. I rarely find anything that was not discussed during the run up to Heller, and usually it is not as well written.
One comment struck a nerve here. A person writing as “Hope Reduction” seriously interested in self defense against rape writes about the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network web site, rainn.org. The writer asks two questions:
1. Considering the vast majority of sexual assault is committed by a known, familiar person, are guns a necessary precaution in everyday home life or when socializing with male acquaintances? If they are necessary (as you posit) for safe travel, and are the most effective prevention tool, should they not be necessarily carried at all times, even in the home, or when socializing?
2. Why does the RAINN have two detailed webpages and an information center dedicated to prevention tips, yet a weapon (such as a gun) is not recommended or even mentioned? The RAINN recommends avoiding dangerous situations, carrying a noisemaker, well-thought home security, etc., but does not list a weapon as a safety precaution. Why is this?
The answer to #2 is obvious to me, simple bias against self defense.

Regarding #2: If you recall, it’s because “guns are bad….mmmmkay.”

There is, of course, in the comments the usual BS about getting the owners gun taken and used against them. Whereas we all know that an armed person will kill an unarmed person with great regularity.

They might take my gun from me, but they are gonna get the bullets first 😀
