Tactical Crap
Heh:
I carry a handgun almost everywhere I go. Most times my wife, family and friends never know. I also have cool toys like Rambo knives, shooting gloves, knee and elbow pads, hydration packs and even boots designed for sliding down ropes and kicking in doors. I just don’t wear any of that stuff to the mall.
Honestly, I can’t decide whether tactical means black and expensive or not anymore. And I say that as a guy who owns tactical pens and tactical underwear. From a conversation I had recently, I do think that tactical a lot of times means well-made. And I am seriously thinking about buying tactical socks. Anyone who has bought socks lately can tell you that the quality of most store bought socks sucks.

Only if you buy mid-to-higher end gear. Plenty of airsoft vendors market their gear as “tactical” as well.

I tried the 5:11 socks, and they are awesome, after over a year the elastic and the sock is holding up very well.

“Anyone who has bought socks lately…”
heh, I don’t even know where one procures socks. I generally get a new pack of them on Christmas and on my Birthday which lasts me until the next gift bag.

Anyone, who pays $5, for a pair of cotton socks, has no tact. What-so-ever.

Gold Toe socks, with the golden thread on the toe end, are the ones I recommend. Their “Fluffies” have an acceptable lifespan and are very comfortable for casual wear, and their sports socks are as good as any higher priced, logo-branded competitors. They even come in tacticool black.

“Tactical” is really gunny speak for “technical” these days. It certainly isn’t used to mean what tactical actually means.

It’s ok, citizens. You don’t need to wear your tactical gear to your local retail establishments, because trained operators like myself are in place to protect you.

Well, you fight in the underwear and socks you have not the ones you want. But where, I ask, are the tactical pajamas for when you confront that burglar in the dark of night?
And for all the tactical gear I’ve read about, and maybe I just missed it, where are the posts on tactical first aid kits designed for blood loss stoppage from penetration wounds and to manage sucking chest wounds?

Darn Tough socks. Quite expensive but the best socks, bar none, I’ve ever worn.

Cotton crew-socks are disposable items sold in 13-pack bulk packages, like plastic forks, you can’t expect them to last a long time.

Swedish Nurse’s socks. Available in nurse uniform shops. They’re $20/pair, but they have a support-hose rating, and are tough as nails. Only thing is, I haven’t found them in anything but white, but that’s what Rit dye is for.

Weambulance, those would be on Sipsey Street Irregulars and his related blogs. He’s allied with a group which puts on battlefield medicine clinics for irregular first responders.

You should check out Impact Guns in Ogden UT, they have a great selection of everything tactical.

I agree about “tactical” meaning well-made. A lot of tac gear is built to never fail, because it’s meant for those situations where failure is not an option.

Tactical condoms? For all your biological warfare defensive needs?

I only wear socks to work and church, except in the winter. (Grew up that way — my mother had to beat us to put on shoes on Sunday. 😉 ) But Gold Toe is a good brand. My wife buys them for me by the half dozen at Target whenever she remembers to.

I have been using Smartwool socks for years. The first pair that I bought still gets regular use and shows no holes (though a little thinning). I loved when I was on SteepandCheap.com and found a great deal. Factory seconds for $4/pair! I bought a bunch and they’re still excellent. Check them out if you feel the need!
