I think we can learn a few things from this beyond the catching a dropped gun aspect: Keep your safety engaged until you’re ready to engage your target and, lacking mechanical safeties on a hunting rifle, keep the chamber empty while in transit. Just saying.

Sling your weapon. It keeps your hands free and, above all, it is safe.

A dented or broken gun is easier to fix or replace than a shot person.
And John hits on my “Rule 5”. USE the safety, but do not TRUST the safety.
