I’m not a Nugent fan; I’ve seen him shoot from up close, and I’m not really impressed.
How-EVAH, as an attorney I can say that while some of his assertions seem overblown, the NC plea does make sense: defending would indeed have been expensive and time consuming (all litigation is), and moreover the case would inevitably become politicized and provide a platform for the animal-rights environuts.
Now, some guys with resources like Ted might take on the fight if they really wanted to prove that they were right, but remember that there are other interests at stake: those of the land owner and the producers of the TV show, both of which probably are grateful for the lower-key resolution of the matter: this way, Ted can insist that nothing illegal was actually done, and the enviros really don’t have a platform to rebut him: this is the power of the microphone.
BTW, the argument about the McDonald case being heard in by the supremes in D.C. is ridiculously inapt. Appellate proceedings consist of extensive written briefs and oral arguments by attorneys; the individual litigant need only appear as a spectator if at all.
I think my joke about McDonald moving to DC is no less ridiculous that Nugent claiming he’d need to move to CA to fight this case.
This is his previous statement from a month or so ago:
“I should have been better informed, more aware and I take full responsibility. The honourable hunting lifestyle is my deepest passion.”
His new blog post basically contradicts that by saying it wasn’t his responsibility and he did nothing wrong. So which is it? As I wrote above, I suspect he’s gotten so much blowback on this issue he is in damage control mode.

Pretty weak. ‘No contest?’
His whole explanation for the plea stinks, esp the moving to California bit. Did Otis McDonald move to DC?
Brass knuckles in CA are usually a misdemeanor and I’m fairly sure Fish and Game aren’t in charge of that.

“Did Otis McDonald move to DC?”
*confused dog look*
Why would a guy from Chicago move to DC to fight a case in Chicago?

Because the case was heard by the Supreme Court?
Also, Nugent previously accepted full responsibility for this on his Facebook page. I’m thinking this is now damage control.
I’ve never liked Nugent as a self appointed spokesman for our 2A rights.
