Speaking of zombies
Caught The Walking Dead TV show last night. No spoilers but so far it’s off to a decent start, though slow for story purposes. I laughed at the zombie in bunny slippers. And that I got to hear the phrase zombie apocalypse on national TV.

It’s not uncommon for the first episode in any series to be a bit slow, since that is the one that has to set up the characters and storyline so that the series can go more smoothly later. So far it has piqued my interest.

Agreed. Forgot to TiVo it. MUST DO

I liked it. A wheel gun wouldn’t be my first choice in that scenario.
Anyone notice the deputy muzzling the kid with the shotgun during the firearm safety speech?
The lead guy does a good Southern accent for a Brit.

Anyone notice at the same time, the dumb guy proceeds to check for a round in chamber with a press check and you can clearly see there is no round in the chamber? Then he is supposed to “make sure his safety is off” on his Glock.
The actual shooting was very realistic considering they were law enforcement. *little smiley faced icon here*

@Ash: One in a series of serious tactical blunders made. I’m not sure if they were trying to make him look generally clueless or if the character was simply clueless because the writers were. I found him walking through all the debris in the hospital and then all the way home without even thinking that shoes would be a good idea a bit far-fetched also.
Still, I enjoyed it for what it was. I hope they get some better writers though…I don’t want to post spoilers but it could have been cut a bit different to preserve some of the tension…I think tipping the viewer to the conditions in Atlanta was a bad idea…it would have been better to build tension by having the campers fighting about “something” that wasn’t voiced and then doing simultaneous cut back reveals as he started having his encounters there. But, that’s just the wannabe film director that has listened to a dozen too many director’s voice overs on DVDs!

Happy with the show

No Haiku, uncle?

I have low expectations for a guy who would ride a horse past thousands of cars, some of which have to have keys and gas, on an interstate highway into Atlanta. And if 75% of the zombies in Atlanta are not non-white, I’m gonna have to call a foul.

I was just pleased that (spoiler) when he popped that zombie in the supposed Abrams tank with the Beretta, that his ears were ringing and he was quite disoriented.

Cool show, to bad it’s pay-TeeVee.

@mikee: Actually I thought the horse was a good choice with water and fodder being a better long-term fuel source than scavenging gas. I think taking time to better lade the horse with firearms, food/water, and camping equipment would have been a good move rather than simply riding around with a duffelbag full of shotguns. I thought it was particularly annoying when abandoned HMMVs and tanks didn’t seriously alarm him and he sort of blew off the zombies shambling from the bus as a non-threat. Then again this is the guy who got shot joking with his buddy instead of verifying downed tangos were staying down and that no more were present. The only consistent aspect of the main character was that he pretty much screwed the pooch tactically every time it was possible!

@Gregory – I gave him a pass on the hospital scene since I assumed he was still in shock at that point. 🙂
I did also notice the cop thumbing a manual safety on what looked like a Glock, and the bag of shotguns that served no apparent purpose.
But all said, good so far for TV. I expected nothing less since Frank Darabont is a genius, and the graphic novel Walking Dead gets high praise too.
BTW, if you haven’t seen Darabont’s film The Mist, check it out – it’s great.

If your talking about the semi-auto in the tank it was a Beretta M9 (aka model 92). It has a manual safety.

The Glock safety was in the flashback cop shootout where the hero got shot.
