Overwhelming
No doubt, the Brady Campaign will declare this a victory:
An amendment to the Kansas Constitution that was drafted to declare a person’s right to own guns for any lawful purpose was approved overwhelming by voters in Tuesday’s election. With 2,291 of 3,315 precincts reporting, the amendment had received 569,876 “yes” votes to 77,520 “no” votes.

So, will they allow for state constitutional carry then? By that wording, it seems like a no brainer to me.

Yeah, it was *not* just to “own” guns for any lawful purpose, it’s a right to keep AND bear them.

OK then; define “lawful purpose”. Literally, it means anything any future legislature decides it means. No?

Nah, don’t get worked up, Lyle, that’s *not* all the amendment says — story got that wrong too.
Actual text:
“A person has the right to keep and bear arms for the defense of self, family, home and state, for lawful hunting and recreational use, and for any other lawful purpose.”
So self-defense is unmistakably in.

It’s saying something for their movement, I suppose, that they could find 77,520 Kansans to vote against that.

That’s only 7 and a bit percent that voted against it. Overwhelming is a good description.
