SIG762
The Firearm Blog reports Sig is coming out with their Sig556 in 7.62×39. Very cool It’s basically an AK anyway.

bah. I like the look and feel of the 556, and 7.62×39 is an OK round…but one of the reasons why I sold my AK was changing AK magazines is a total drag. Both in the tactical sense, but also in the “I’m not having fun” sense.
Frankly I was hoping they’d attempt to under-cut Springfield, DS Arms, and FNH by putting out a “Sig762” in 7.62x51mm. Because that cartridge is made of awesome!

But I’ve heard they’re dropping the AR10 mag and instead using the easier to find SR-25 SASS mags.

Can I paint it orange?

Joe, that’s just a new-fangled AR-10, not a Sig 500 pattern rifle…

Holy crap, it’s like they listened to my whining for a 7.62×39 gun that uses AK mags.
I’ll take two!
Only now I need to figure out how to back-convert it to the SG552 format…

Weer’d,
You are correct, sir. I forgot that the 716 was built off the 516 platform and not the 556. I guess the 556R name should be a giveaway…
