Why the war on guns must fail
Can guns be banned so effectively that they cannot be re-created by motivated people?

Some years ago, I read a marvelous history titled “Giving Up The Gun: Japan’s Reversion to the Sword, 1543-1879” by Noel Perrin. It was supposed to explain how we could eradicate evil firearms from our society. The author, of course, got it all wrong. Guns were eliminated by a bounty system; the more enemies you killed, the more money you (or your survivors) got. He also neglected to mention that firearms still accounted for a significant number of crimes in Japan.

Guns don’t take that much to make at home.

And guns can and will always be liberated from the Police and Military. Just ask Mexico…

Yeah, if they really want to wage war on guns, start with the hired guns. But no, they just want to take guns from us, not them.
Make sure you have guns with some of the same cartiridge sizes that the hired guns have, so the “liberated” ones will be more useful.

Well, you could render the population so stupid they can’t perform the basic mechanical and chemical engineering necessary to produce firearms. The great news is we’ve already embarked upon this long-term strategy: we call it “the public school system”.

It’s generally agreed that the level of control exercised by the Nazis over conquered territory was pretty high. However, even after the Nazis controlled Poland for three years, the Jews in the Warsaw ghetto made Sten guns, full auto 9 mm’s modeled on the basic British commando weapon. If it is possible for an occupied people to make full auto weapons, no government in a free society can prevent the manufacture of firearms by the local bad guys.

Not to mention that every cop car has a few firearms and several boxes of ammunition. They can either be stolen in an auto burglary from in front of the cop’s house, or pillaged and liberated in front of the cop’s dead body.
