Musical interlude
A friend of mine once said that what metal is to rock, bluegrass is to country. He’s probably right since I like Bluegrass and mostly hate country. And bluegrass covers are awesome:
I don’t know that the gourds are really bluegrass though.

Has the term “Bluegrass” been hijacked?

Love the song. If you’ve read any of John Sandford’s Virgil Flowers books, you know Virgil is a fan of off beat alternative sort of bands, and this song is referenced by title in one of the books. Can’t remember which one, probably one of the first two in the series, Dark of The Moon or Heat Lightning. Great stuff.

Oh my heavens that cover of “Gin and Juice” is fantastic. Big ol’ grin maker.

Not long ago I heard a CD that was all Moody Blues songs done in bluegrass. Believe me, “Nights In White Satin” does NOT sound good as a bluegrass song.

You should try Jimi Hendrix. There’s a whole album, called “Pickin on Hendrix”. Some of them are pretty good, actually, others not so much.

The great Howlin Wolf (or Willie Dixon) tune “Sittin’ on Top of the World” was covered by the Texas Playboys in 1935!…and Bill Monroe about 20 years later, and then 10 years after (heh) that by Cream, which is where most of us probably heard it.
I hear it’s really by the Mississippi Sheiks. Also, Chaucer ripped off Boccaccio. Mercilessly: no royalties, no footnotes, nothin’. Would it kill a guy to give a shout out when sampling?

The Cleverlys are effing awesome! Now if only they would play at Winfield… This was a good pick me up after a poor deer season. The more I read this blog the more I think you might be my clone.

I don’t know … there’s something wrong with the guy with the drum in the Cleverly’s Walk Like An Egyptian.
