This person should be a recruit to the pro-rights crowd. He sounds confused as to how reductions in gun violence can happen, and that is why he is supporting the anti-rights group. Given time and some education, this man will fall onto the side of pro-rights, pro-gun activists.
I hope when he does, he will be as welcome on this side of the debate as he is now on the anti-side. Converts make the best evangelists for a cause.

Well, the police and an unarmed populace are the common criminals’ friend. Without the police, people take measures to defend themselves and don’t rely on “help is on the way.” Then either bury the body or call the dead animal truck. With the police, the criminal is left to them unless there is some imminent threat. So your common criminal while risking arrest from police is more likely to be left to the police by the populace rather than “counseled” by concerned citizens.
After Katrina, the criminal types had to be careful. One body beaten by wind and water driven 2×4 look much like the other body beaten by a 2×4 in hand. Even after normalcy started returning, you could see on people’s faces they really could use a punching bag to blow off some stress so everyone watched who the provoked.
