FOPA Stuff
There’s always been rumors about the Hughes amendment not really being passed and added to the 86 Firearms Owners Protection Act. Andrew Vuurwapen notes, through recently released archives, it looks like the votes may not have been there. Doubt there’s any room for recourse.

Uncle, I think this is old news.
The recorded vote (which has been available for a long time) shows clearly that the amendment failed substantially in the house vote.
The Hughes amendment was allegedly added back into the FOPA during the reconciliation process between house and senate versions, even though it had failed in the house.

It would fall under the political question doctrine.

and your recourse is in your gun safe.

Actually it was not added back during reconciliation, there was a voice vote on the Hughes amendment less than 5 min after the electronic vote on the Hughes amendment was called (and failed by a large margin). It was then pronounced passed by Rangel (who had been calling votes for his team regardless of actual outcome all day) and if there were any demands from the floor for a recorded vote it was ignored, and Rangel moved on to other business.

Wish I would have known this. CSPAN’s HQ is right across the street from my gym.
I could have walked in and paid for the video and have it on youtube.com tomorrow.

Cspan doesn’t have the footage, I’ve already hounded them for it.
The Cspan archives begin in 1987 and were initially a project of an outside institution (I can’t remember offhand what college it was)
Before that all they have are snippets of historical speeches etc.
