Owwww! is a relative expression. Without external ballistics data, it’s hard to tell. The rifle weighed 26#, so felt recoil was probably NOT nearly as bad as a .600 NE in a 13# rifle.
As I understand the old Brit “bore” system, “2-Bore” means that in an unrifled barrel, two bullets would have weighed a pound. 12-bore (gauge) a Troy ounce, 16-bore an avoirdupois (normal) ounce, etc. 7,000 grains to the pound.
