Playing devil’s advocate for a moment though, wouldn’t you agree that sting operations like this could have the benefit of putting doubt into the mind of would-be terrorists? They might be more reluctant to trust and link up with otherwise like-minded conspirators? All of them now have to seriously consider that they are being played.
Knowing about “To Catch a Predator” hasn’t seemed to slow down the stream of pervs flowing into Chris Hansen’s traps. It’s amazing, how many of them admit to having seen the show, when asked.

Well it is easier to create them than go after the real ones, besides the real ones have real bombs & guns, and are really mean

I don’t know, who’s to say someone else wouldn’t create them? Someone for reals.
And this also has to scare other potential recruits. They’re wondering if it’s al Quaeda or the FBI.

That infiltration of radical groups by our intelligence and law enforcement organizations is underway is a given. That’s how plots are stopped.
But when the boss says “Round up some terrorists, pronto!” the easy way to do it is to make some.
As long as real radical groups are still being worked over thoroughly, these marginal cases should not be too worrisome.
