This is just my opinion, but during the inevitable interviews with the media, there should be no measure of scorn and ridicule left unheaped upon officials.
Polite society reserves profanity for the exceptions in life ….. these people are them.
“… the men could have faced a stiffer charge: disobeying a lawful order.”
What kind of BS is a charge of “disobeying a lawful order”? Unless you joined the military, or are interacting with your parents, the ability of anyone else on the planet to order another adult to do something should be effectively nil. So your ‘lawful order’ can go pound sand.
When people say “it’s a free country” I say ‘since when?’
Maryland, the gift that keeps on giving. I left a decade ago and still thank God daily that I live in Texas now.
While I respect the men who saved the deer, I would have been equally supportive if the Natural Resource Officer had shot the deer to prevent its suffering. The LEOs got upset because they did not “man up” and do one or the other before a civilian stepped up to the task.
Deer in MD, especially around Bawlmer, where this story occurs, are like pigeons downtown: overpopulated, obnoxious and sometimes dangerous to humans. One less would do the place good.
Self initiative is to be discouraged whenever possible. If left unpunished, it could lead to more self initiative, and eventually to demands for more freedom, and that would be counter to the interests of The State.
