Come and take them
Several gun owners are refusing to surrender a semi-automatic rifle that was imported from China and bought legally before the RCMP retroactively declared it a prohibited weapon.
It’s like registration leads to confiscation or something.

I say good for those gun owners. It probably wont end well for them though. 🙁

So the police are changing the rules without legislation. That could never happen here, right? The ATF surely wouldn’t ever do that.

The Simonov SKS, which is an incredibly common semi-automatic rifle in Canada, can be converted to fully automatic with as little as a popsicle stick, one of them said on Monday.”
What the hell?

You could probably make it slam-fire with a popsicle stick. But that’s not going to go well for you.
December 21st, 2010 at 1:11 pm
Maybe they should make popsicle sticks illegal…

They could make you register your shoelaces, since those could be used as a machine gun too.

It comes down to this: the Canadian government will send armed men to their homes to take their guns by force.
If this were in America, it would be a spark in the powder room, and I’d be watching very, very carefully.

The government representative they quoted, Mr. Toews, has no doubt of the outcome, only the length of time it’s going to take.

Damn, it’s gonna go bad on somebody if they ever come after mine. I still hope they come to their senses before they do.

Once they get the idea that they can look at us naked, search us at will, regulate flushing toilets and lightbulbs, tax rainwater and we submit to all that and more, of COURSE they know they can come get our guns. They will probably require that we come lay them at their feet….and people will do it.
December 21st, 2010 at 4:00 pm
Heh, I have old toilet tanks, and a serious store of incandescent bulbs. They can’t look at me naked, and if they want to grope me, they’re going to have to buy me dinner and a movie first. (It helps I don’t have anywhere to fly.) I’m not tellin ’em about the rainwater. If they want the firearms, I feel it only fair to give them the bullets first.

>You could probably make it slam-fire with a popsicle stick. But thats not going to go well for you.
You can also get the SKS to slam-fire by putting in the firing pin incorrectly.

Around here, some gun owners are turning in their weapons – but not entirely willingly:
Guns Destroyed
“Malik Hall, a round-eyed second-grader, looked apprehensive as he stood in line with his favorite toy, a thick, blue gun with plastic sword underneath the muzzle. The 8-year-old was furious when his mother, Amanda, told him he would have to give it up. ‘Yesterday morning, he tried to hide it under his pillow’, she said.

“If this were in America, it would be a spark in the powder room, and Id be watching very, very carefully.”
No it wouldnt. We would all sit here complaining about it, and the majority of gun owners would say there is no need for them, you cant hunt deer with an SKS.
It wouldnt be taken lightly, but what did we say when they came for the MGs? What did we say when they came for any of the other retroactive bans here in the us? Nothing. Because when it comes down to it, the BATFE shows up at your house, shoots your wife, kids and dog, and puts you in prison for a long time.

I’m Canadian. I love my country of origin: I grew up an hour’s drive away from Banff National Park, how could I not love such a place?
But what it’s going thru right now just makes me ill.

The politicians that submitted banning toilets and light bulbs should have gotten a rifle butt to the face. Every one of them. That way things not only wouldn’t go further, but never would have been brought up again. You give in even the slightest, they will continue to push further.
And Bryan, that’s why you don’t wait for them. You go on the offensive.
December 21st, 2010 at 6:32 pm
This was tried before, only it was called Prohibition. I can’t imagine banning firearms working any better than that earlier experiment. Heck, get right down to it, we’ll all go down to Mexico and get our guns back!

bryan s nailed it dead on….
December 21st, 2010 at 11:40 pm
Bryan and John, I hope not. If so, we deserve our chains.

I guess that most of you folks stateside wouldn’t see
a govt official saying “oh it’ll take years to confiscate those weapons”
as an improvement
unfortunately it is 6 years ago there would have been no question whatsoever, the firearms in question would be gone, and the individuals involved would be locked up already.
as bad as it is, it is an improvement from years past
you folks keep pushing where you live and we will do the same
that’s part of what this situation is about

And one more note
CBSA/Canada Border Services
Was not allowed to carry til very recently (couple years)
and Vancouver=SanFran/Seattle
If you want some idea of the type of mindset You would likely get on staff
(I’m sure the hiring quotas over the years didn’t help either)
