Man who wrote “how to” for pedophiles arrested, about to be very rich
CNN notes that Phillip Greaves was extradited from CO to FL for distribution of his book:
Judd said he was frustrated that Greaves’ book was protected under freedom of speech laws, even though it was created “specifically to teach people how to sexually molest and rape children.”
“There may be nothing that the other 49 states can do, but there is something that the state of Florida can do … to make sure we prosecute Philip Greaves for his manifesto,” Judd said.
The sheriff is dumb enough to say that free speech doesn’t apply in FL. And charge the guy with odd obscenity statutes. I doubt those charges would stick unless the book has depictions of molestation or some such.
Don’t get me wrong, I think Greaves should die in a fire. But the case against him is probably week. And he can probably sue.

The irony here is that when greaves sues the sheriff and the county he will probably retire to the very same florida county….

Florida got the guy behind ‘Max Hardcore’ on obscenity charges. If he’s going to get convicted anywhere that’s the most likely place.

The difference between max hardcore and this little shit is that max hardcore actually made physical movies. This guy printed a book. We all know how scotus feels about limiting books of any type. As far as scotus is concerned there is no case….

If I’m not mistaken, there’s already been recent cases of people convicted (or at least taking plea bargins) for purely written text of pedophilia.

Yes, I recall a few years back that some guy was arrested for creating child porn for keeping some kind of dream diary or something.
When creating child porn involves actually doing something with a child, I’m all for throwing them in jail (well, as a minimum. I have more creative things I’d like to do to them). But when they write stories for themselves, which means no child was hurt making it, I have a hard time finding an actual crime there.

Would writing a murder mystery likewise place you in hot water for writing a murder manifesto? Whenever cops want to expand their power, they always start out with “It’s for the children.”
That song is rather worn out to my ears.

Didn’t 2LiveCrew get nabbed for “obscenity” in Florida, way back in the day? I seem to recall that Broward County eventually lost the case.
Seems like Polk County wants to go down the same road.
Man, the stupid is strong down there…

“Dies in a fire” is a little too good for the likes of this guy. I’m thinking more of “dies from rabies, twice.”

Somewhat agree with Ben. Why should you think of death? You can’t scream when your dead.

Seems that the guys book has no pictures in it at all. Just words….

Writing a book that instructs pedophiles on how to pick up children also instructs people watching out for pedophiles on how pedophiles pick up children. It’s a “cat’s out of the bag” thing, in that it reveals their methods. Not something that should be suppressed, and not something that a pedo would want people reading – they’d know how he operates.
The sheriff doesn’t sound too bright.

Exactly, Chas. If I had a kid, I’d have him read that book, and discuss it with him.
Of course, back when I was a kid, in the fifies, every stranger grownup I met was helpful, and not creepy. I betcha most stranger grownups, even these days, are more helpful than creepy.
Or, they would be, were it not for fear of malicious prosecution.
