Rand Paul’s Plan to Cut $500B
From the fed.gov. It’s like libertarian porn!
At Wal-Mart yesterday, the .380 ammo was $32 for 100. 9MM was $22 per 100. I thought it odd. I thought I took a pic but apparently the internet ate it.
Gun control is once again gun safety, though it has nothing to do with safety. But it doesn’t matter, you still get told no:
The chairman of the House Judiciary Committee on Friday rejected a request from Democrats to hold hearings related to gun safety in the aftermath of the shootings in Tucson earlier this month.
All 16 Democrats on the committee, which has jurisdiction over firearms laws, sent a letter to Rep. Lamar Smith, the Texas Republican who recently took charge of the panel, asking him to convene hearings on the use of high-capacity magazines and improving background checks to prevent the mentally ill from obtaining guns.
During an instructional class for crime scene investigators inside San Francisco’s Hall of Justice at 850 Bryant St.,a veteran inspector began a discussion on single action vs. double action firearms when — kaboom! — his gun fired a bullet straight through a cubicle wall.
Another paper calling for it. I’m all for more information but the studies from the past indicate definite bias against gun rights.
Paul Helmke dreams of a resurgence of support for gun control. This has only occurred with anti-gunners and editorial boards, but I repeat myself.
A Department of Homeland Security Fusion Center has labeled the ACLU a terrorist organization. Get in line behind gun rights folks, militias, environmental protesters, gay pride marchers, and other icky people of which the government does not approve.
This may be the dumbest thing I’ve read in a while. He is right that cars don’t kill people. I would love to treat guns just like cars. If so, then I could:
I could buy any gun I wanted without any paperwork and make any modifications that I wanted so long as I used it only on my property. Machine guns included.
I would be licensed in my state to carry my gun. Then, that license would be valid in all other states and on all public thoroughfares.
Shooters education required in school.
A muffler would be required by law for my firearm so as not to create a nuisance.
The analogy fails on many levels. This, however, is a more appropriate analogy.
Update: In comments, I’m reminded of this piece by Dave Kopel on comparing car ownership to gun ownership.
Sends ‘investigators’ to AZ gun shows. They claim they can’t pass background checks and buy guns from dealers anyway. Except that if it happened without a background check, they broke the law. A dealer must perform a NICS check or that is a violation of law. I’m guessing they bought from individuals, who are not required to perform background checks.
Also, purchasing a handgun out of state is illegal and if NY investigators did that, they broke the law too.
Once again, loophole seems to mean doesn’t prevent a crime. Kinda like how I violated the speed limit loophole on my way in to the office.
Oleg is asking folks to donate to Dick Heller’s Heller Foundation. Sounds like it’s well worth it to me.
The band of about 40 robbers, some of whom were travelling as passengers, stopped the train in the Chittaranjan jungles in West Bengal around midnight. Shrestha– who had boarded the train at Ranchi in Jharkhand, the place of his posting–was in seat no. 47 in coach AC3.
“They started snatching jewelry, cell phones, cash, laptops and other belongings from the passengers,” Shrestha recalled. The soldier had somehow remained a silent spectator amidst the melee, but not for long. He had had enough when the robbers stripped an 18-year-old girl sitting next to him and tried to rape her right in front of her parents. He then took out his khukuri and took on the robbers.
“The girl cried for help, saying ´You are a soldier, please save a sister´,” Shrestha recalled. “I prevented her from being raped, thinking of her as my own sister,” he added. He took one of the robbers under control and then started to attack the others. He said the rest of the robbers fled after he killed three of them with his khukuri and injured eight others.
During the scuffle he received serious blade injury to his left hand while the girl also had a minor cut on her neck. “They had carried out their robbery with swords, blades and pistols. The pistols may have been fake as they didn´t open fire,” he surmised.
The Tennessean has an interesting bit on Leonard Embody, who has a habit of challenging Tennessee gun laws in interesting ways.
As seen on Sons of Guns. Haven’t watched the show yet but may start. Also, it seems to like running that sort of business and having it videotaped is bad. I’m sure several ATF agents have been assigned to watch and note when they fail to dot an i or cross a t.
Shutting down private security contracts. Because they know everyone hates them and wants them gone.
A 6-year-old home-schooler who ran afoul of “zero tolerance” policies was suspended because he took a shotgun shell to his school.
The first-grader’s mother, Charlene Beattie, says the one-week suspension imposed by the Des Moines school district, lacked common sense.
In my post below, I decided to count the ammo just in my bedroom that is ready to go (i.e, in magazines or chambers):
45ACP 117
380 19
9MM 52
Total 188
Ok, then.
ETA:
4 guns
3 lasers
12 magazines
7 holsters
This morning, I organized where I keep my carry rigs:

Then, decided I needed to organize my ammo cabinet:

I need more ammo.
Then, I discovered this on one of the Black Dog Machine magazines for my 22LR conversion kit for the AR:

Feed lips busted. These mags have only been in my ammo locker and a range bag. Never dropped one or done any tactical reloads or anything. Odd. So, yes:
Q: How many mags should you have?
A: More.
Magazines are perishable items. Buy more.
Ammo too, of course.
Layers of editorial oversight:
The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence estimates that each year, 100,000 people in this country are killed by firearms. Spend an hour on the organization’s Web site, and you can watch the day’s total tick unnervingly up.
Egypt has one to suppress dissent. Obama wants one too. Just a thought. Not that he’d use it for similar reasons just to illustrate it’s a horrible idea.
Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
