Good to know
In comments on my review of the M&P9, jumpthestack says of the frame tool:
The frame tool is useless. I just use my finger to push the sear disconnect down. You can also just pull the trigger like on a Glock.
Ah. So that is their fix to the supposed Glock problem of having to pull the trigger before disassembling.

Ruger does the same thing on their SR series where you can either pull the trigger ala Glock or push down on the ejector. Either one will work to disassemble. Walther/S&W’s P99 guns have a separate decocker to decock the striker so no pulling of the trigger was required though you still could choose to pull it to disassemble if you wanted to.

I didn’t even know the take-down lever thingy existed in my M&P9 for about 2 months. I just pulled the trigger.

The frame tool is useful for switching the mag release.

My frame tool loosened up within just a few uses but I generally only use it to change the grips.

Note that those who have them will need to take out the mag disconnect safety if you want the trigger pull method to work. I removed mine immediately when I got it anyways, so I’m not 100% sure about that.

I have a better solution. I use a click pen with the ink cartridge retracted, the end of the pen is ideal for snagging the bar. It also works great for changing the mag release over too.
