Notice I didn’t say that he should have shot the robber forthwith. If the robber got violent, then he would have been justified to shoot. But the presence of a real gun in the hands of the clerk would have most likely have caused the robber to flee (With wet pants. Bonus!)
I’d be afraid that a robber had a real gun that looked like a toy.
The ATF recently announced how easy it is to make airsoft toys into automatically rifles, and there is always some guy on the internet trying to jury rig a Nerf gun to shoot .380 ammo, or a supersoaker to be a flame thrower.

Justifiable to shoot the robber or not? What if he knew it was a toy, but never admitted it after shooting the fool robber?

Would’a been better if the clerk could have said, “That’s not a gun! *click clack* This is a gun!”
